It's going to be the Ultramarines versus Orkz until the Eldar show up, get shot up, try to parley and reveal there's a sinister Chaos plot and then Traitor Marines everywhere. As usual.

Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

That sounds familiar. :) Orks, if done right and especially from their perspective, can be fun. Have you read their codex? Hilariously over the top. On that point what would you like it to be about?

Well 40k in general is ridiculously over the top. That's the fun of it after all. I can PM you some of my 40k short stories if you want.

On the other hand....titan battles :) Who wouldn't want to see that? *every race that lacks titans of some sort....namely the Tau and Dark Eldar*

but yeah. Orks -> Eldar -> Chaos, that's how Dawn of War went and it kinda worked.

A cool first attempt could be an Inquisitor traveling to a distant world to investigate rumours of heresy. Uncovers a chaos plot/infestation/ritual/orgy and calls in space marines or some such.

This way they could make it not quite as epic (which one imagines would be more expensive) as a full scale war, and it would be a good way to test out the premise of the universe on the ignorant.


... Or they could make it about the Horus heresy, I hear there's quite extensive literature on the subject outside of what was in my Thousand Sons playing friend's codex.

The Heresy books are now above ten, I think. I'm reading the latest one. Graham McNeill is much better than Dan Abnett if you ask me... but still, they keep pausing the action, then going back to the past, then they release audio books that seem to take place after events that the books haven't covered yet. Anyway, it's starting to get messy and there are about four coming in the next six months which I don't know how I'm going to have time to read.

But damn, the Heresy is the best story in the 40k universe. They really wouldn't be able to do it justice in one or two films, though.

The Horus Heresy would be far too long to make into a 70 minute movie.

To add to my above... I do like how the books are taking it incredibly slow. So far, I'm not sure that any of the four main Chaos powers have even had their names mentioned more than once. I like a slow cook, makes for good eating.

As long as the final meal isn't a dogshit sandwich, of course. In which case, just throw some sugar on it and I'll eat it now.

As long as they don't bring in the Orkz. The Orkz are cool on paper and on the table, but there isn't an actor in the world who can do them justice. Any and every attempt that's been made has been cheesier than a swizz burger for cats. Also, I'm sick and tired of the usual eldar portrayal. If they can do them like like the vorlons (mystic and insanely powerful tech), it'd be good. Otherwise they're just your stereotypical fantasy puffs, aren't they? Then again, if it's about space marines, it's doomed from the getgo, isn't it?

Ideally, they'd do the Horus Heresy over the course of about 10 x 24 episodes. That would be the single greatest television event of all time. It won't happen, of course. Ah well. Ultramarines vs Orks it is.

Oh god, I hope they are not going for some kind of artistic expressionistic animation bullshit.

That marines face was not nearly bulky and scary looking enough. Looked like they stuffed an old man into an over sized tin can.

Ok, I get that I don't really know all that much about WH40k, having not played it since I was about 11. But even I know that Ultramarines are inexpressibly gay. They're the shittest of all space marines, the boring beginners army. If you're gonna do a space marines film, why not do something like Blood Angels? That'd be way more interesting, insane blood-lust filled killers.
