Ok I might be stating the obvious here...or someone has brought this up before...

Just had another look at Baruk's Draconian family tree and Nimander's great-grandad is Scabandari.
Took me a little by surprise...is it mentioned anywhere that he has Edur blood?

I think you're misreading the tree...Nimander is the first son of Anomander Rake, who is certainly not a descendant of Scabandari :D

His mother is envy right?
She is a daughter of Shelthatha lore and Draconus.
Shelthatha is a daughter of Scabandari.

So great grand son of Scabandari it is.
And Grand son of Draconus

Phaed is the daughter of Envy, not Nimander :p

The tree can easily be misread and is unlikely to be completely accurate in any case. SE specifically mentioned that it was one of three schemes proposed by Baruk, but we never got the other two.

From the books, it is suggested that Envy seduced Nimander as a way to get back at Anomander and produced Phaed, though even that seems a bit dodgy, perhaps she is the product of Rake and Envy.

Nimander and his group (other than Phaed) are presented as age-mates, growing up together -presumably Anomander was in a 'sowing his seed' phase at some point :D

I don't think there's any reason to believe that Nimander's mother was Envy, aside from the suggestive placement in the tree, which I put down to translation error on the part of the person who made up the .pdf version of the tree :D

Yeah I know, Phead is Nimanders sister. There mother is Envy. Envy's mother is Sheltatha Lore. Sheltatha Lore's father is Scabandari.

This always messes me up...

Phaed is Envy and Rake's daughter (and Scabby -> Sheltana -> Envy so that makes her Scabby's granddaughter and btw technically Mother Darks great granddaughter via Draconus/Envy AND Mother Dark's grandaughter via Rake... um... geez no wonder she was a head case).

Nimander is the son of Rake and an un-named Andii woman who was also an adopted mother to Phaed, and whose severed head is sitting on the Silanda.

Envy and Nimander were lovers at some point.

Phaed and Nimander were lovers at some point.

- Abyss, swears these people all belong on Jerry Springer...

The all have unresolved mommy-issues. Maybe now that Mother Dark is back in the picture, she'll help put an end to the incest. You'd think that someone would have stepped up and said, Hey! Don't sleep with your sister/brother/various-weird-whatevers!

That's the thing with immortals. You can be born (or whatever), wander around spawning entire civilizations of peoples who in turn reproduce and live for thousands of years and then the next thing you know, your father is also your uncle, you're your own grandson, sheboinging with your sister, who is like 20 thousand years younger than you....

- Abyss, notes immortals are like rednecks.

I don't know, from Nimander's thoughts the Andii on the Silanda seemed more like a lover than a mother. But really seeing how tha entire group basically practices incest on different degrees, I don't think it matters much.

Nimander's thoughts are biased. Phaed calls him out for it in Toll as he remembers things that he WISHED he would have said/done to one who would have been his lover. Also, it is stated pretty explicitly that the mother's head was on the boat in Reaper's and how ghastly that voyage was from Malaz City to Second Maiden Fort because of it.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
