what did Losatara pick up? towards the end

when pearl and Lostara get close to Shaiks camp there is a scene where Lostara "recorgnizes" something on the ground. Minutes later pearl asks her what it was and she says nothing, he then says "so its not still in your belt pouch"? She sucker punches him and knocks him out. Cotillion shows up later and she gives him something, I assume its whatever she found...Anyone know what it was?
I have seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter at the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain...."

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. Pretty sure it's whatever drops near Kalam later, possibly Quick's acorn. HoC is the book with the longest time between rereads for me, so I'm not certain of that.

You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

and I am still confused at what Cotillion wanted Lostara to do? To me, it seems they did nothing but follow pearls leads...

She followed Pearl on his investigation and gave Cottilion a report. So, most likely he wanted to know what they uncovered on their way.

Lostara's work for Cotillion continues beyond HoC, who knows if the act Cotillion envisioned her doing happened in HoC, or later, or may never have happened at all (that's the thing with predicting the future, sometimes you're wrong)

Didn't she bend down to get something, then knock out Pearl by surprise? I'm pretty sure that's how it happened.

That would seem illogical as the elapsed time between her picking up the object and Pearl getting knocked out was too long for it to have been a distraction.

Truthfully, no one is really sure what the item is from this book because SE doesn't describe what it is. And I Remember very vividly (I just recently finished the book), that Cotillion had no forward knowledge of the item being placed there on the ground. Which, would assume that it is something that Lostara personally knows what it is, or that it belong to another god and was place along their path. I mean, the sword that Oppon had "blessed" was taken by either by one of them, probabaly Cotillion, and he has been just collecting items every since GotM. So, my guess is the item belonged to another god and was dropped there in the hope that Lostara would hold on to it and potentially become the spy for two gods.
