heya fellow nerdariums,

Well on the weekend I pushed aside all other novels in my to read list and began reading MOI.....100 odd pages into it and I'm finding it the easiest Malazan book to begun so far and Im loving the continuation of GoTM ;)

To make sure Im on the right track is it correct in saying the BridgeBoys, Caladon Brood and the Rhivi folk are all coming together to form an alliance vs the Pannion Seer (was the seer mentioned in GoTM....i think so)

is the old windbag Kruppe back for this book??

I knew Toc the Younger would come back!!! I hope that dirtbag wizard (puppetman) is gone for good though....he made me creeper and blood boil

thanks dudes

Well thank you kind sir

Im now 200 off pages into it.....the alliance is planning their logistics to move toward Coral City.....the lads are playing cards ....crone is spying as usual

some questions i have:

What exactly is a Bonecaster?? Someone who can summon Tlan Imass? A soothsayer perhaps??

Is Hairlock dead for good>? That guy boiled my blood

finally, is there a "journey" involved with this book....travelling to another place or just set in one area?

Thanks dudes

A Bonecaster is a T'lan Imass shaman that can veer into the type of animal that their stole represents. They also enchant weapons and do other things.

Hmmm. Basically.

Well, they are planning on fighting the Pannion Domin, so they are going to have to travel to that area. Much like GotM, the action takes place in a smallish landmass, but there are differing settings.

Thanks dudes

Enjoy. MoI is awesome.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Yeah, I don't know if SE spells out the origin of the Imass title, but a "bonecaster" would be a shaman who makes divinations from the tossing (or "casting") of bones, kinda like throwing dice. (In fact, the first dice were made from knuckle bones.)
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

and of course, shoulderman/woman is a reference to the reading of cracks in the shoulder blade of beast as it sits on a fire.

i just love etymology :p

first up, yes. yes there is.

second, the caravanserai, are, i believe, the name for a guild of caravan guards that any merchant can hire to protect his train. gruntle and stonny and harllo's master is a lot more than he seems, but that will become clear.
