Immersion destroying moment SE, what have you done?

Not quite done with MoI (3 chapters to go, the armies are on the march to Coral), so please no spoilers about the end here:
I just encountered the most immersion-destroying moment in any book I read in the recent past.
'What was it?' you might ask, so I oblige and tell you:
A talking toad it was.
A talking toad? In a universe of demons, gods, ascendents, soletaken and divers? How can a talking toad upset you so much?
Well, that is why. Suddenly all became clear to me. Ganoes is Mario saving the world and Silverfox who is Princess Peach, by defeating Bowser which is disguised as a K'ell Hunter etc. I can't read on for a while, have to put the book down to get the imagery out of my head. The sad thing is, Ganoes likely IS going to do those precise things. Anyway, no spoilers please of the last 3 chapters. Let me sit in a corner for a week and weep.

I find that alcohol helps more during reading than hallucinogenics. But, whatever floats your boat.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

It'sa me! Parano Parano! And his sister, Tavorgi Parano!
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Don't worry. The toad becomes hugely significant in later books.

Yea, that part struck me too. But I bet if we asked SE he could throw together a 100 page novella on the artist and the toad and their experiences together that would make it seem acceptable.
So, you're the historian who survived the Chain of Dogs.
Actually, I didn't.
It seems you stand alone.
It was ever thus.

Do not underestimate power of Toad. I find your lack of faith...

But Toad is a mushroom-man named Toad, while Gumble is a talking toad named Gumble. Totally different.
Also, Gumble is actually funny and eloquent, whereas Toad is generally just annoying with his "Yahooo"s, "Wahahahahaha" and such. I still have nightmares about his freakish mario kart voice...

Well, Toad is a toadstool, not a toad per se. Still can't disassociate Mario from MoI. I'll go and play some Nintendo now.

Ok, I managed to finish the book now. I'll probably start a new thread about it, soon. Lot's and lot's to ask.
