So after Sandra Bullock won Best Actress for her role in this film at the Golden Globes the other night, I decided to go and see it with my gf.
I didn't even know what it was about going in, but man was I ever blown away. A feel good film through and through. One about human spirit and kindness. In a world of films that is dominated these days by violence and action it';s nice to know that small drama's and true stories can still have an impact.
The story, in a nutshell, is about a kid from the bad side of town in Memphis, Tennessee (one of 13 children by a crack whore) who sleeps on couches of friends houses, and doesn't really go to school finding his way into a Christian school and being noticed and befriended by a wealthy family who find he has no place to go and offer to help him. The story continues on to show his only real proficiency is "protective instincts" (in which he tests in the 98th percentile) and Leigh Anne Tuohy (Bullocks' character and the mother of said wealthy family) sees that he would be good using that role in football.
I won't tell you any more not to spoil it, but this film is quite the triumph. It's simple and genuine. The people in it are based on real people and this is a true story and no matter how much I thought to myself that people couldn't be this genuine and kind....they are...and they were, and that impresses me.
At any rate, my girlfriend, who never reads, wanted to read the book it is based on. We enjoyed it that much!
Bullock wholeheartedly deserves the Golden Globe win. She was amazing.
I realize this is a Sci-Fi/Fantasy kind of place, but hopefully some of you have it in you to dig other stuff.

I hate those kinds of films.
I love starring at Sandra Bullock and thinking naughty thoughts.
I AM CONFLICTED!

Mute, fast forward non-Sandra bits. Problem solved.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

This was a great movie, although there was significant creative license taken regarding Michael Oher's football skills, or lack thereof when he started playing for the high school team. Overall, a fantastic story. As far as Sandra Bullock's acting chops in the movie, I don't know if she deserved best actress, but it was the first time I've been interested in watching one of her movies in quite a while.

The Blind Side was an excellent movie in my opinion...definitely one of the better sports movies that have come out since Miracle.
"Ignoring him, she stepped back out of the ellipse and began singing in the Woman's Language, which was, of course, unintelligible to Iskaral's ears. Just as the Man's Language-which Mongora called gibberish-was beyond her ability to understand. The reason for that, Iskaral Pust knew, was that the Man's Language was gibberish, designed specifically to confound women."

Decent entertainment. Worth a rental but not big screen dollars.
- Abyss, liked her better in SPEED.

Ugh, sorry lost interest. And yes I know that makes me sound very shallow or whatever but I have seen a bunch of films like that and they bore me... I'm not saying I want to only watch violent action movies, cos that's not it at all, but still, it just doesn't sound interesting at all!

Ok, for anyone who lives near this... communist, I'll mail you the rope, handcuffs and eye clips, you tie him up and make him watch this. Not because I think it was particularly good (cause it was really just 'ok') but because its an easier segue into Cries and Whispers or Seventh Seal or *goes on and on* than Transformers would be.
