[Orfantal]

As nobody seems to be looking at my poetry I thought I'd share something else with you. In the dim and distant I have had my literary ambitions (pretensions?) and tried to write a novel and a couple of short stories using the same world and background and some of the same characters, but didn't get too far. Seems to be a common outcome. However having viewed a number of excellent offerings on this site I feel inspired to try again. I need to review what I have done before and make some major changes, particularly to world and background as I am no longer happy with them. But I would be grateful for views on this snippet, which was originally the first chapter of a short story but will now probably get incorporated into the main one.
