Looks as thought Steven is getting ready to write another Book.

"King stated he will write another Dark Tower novel. It will center around supporting characters and revolve around some important events between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla

I'm not sure how I feel about that. Those books totally sucked me in for a while. At times I didn't actually enjoy reading but felt compelled to see what happened. Wolves of the Calla was one of the best though.

I'm just not sure if I care enough now to rad about side plots.

Oh my. Excuse me, I am going to go weep from joy. I love this series so much. I don't know if it's necessary to add more to it, but I'll certainly buy and enjoy it. Thanks for the headsup.

apparently the gap between these two books was when Steven was hit by that car...
And this falls between those two?

There is no doubt his writing changed after the accident...

I think books 1-4 were good, afterwards it just wasnt consistent. The ending was brilliant though. Might give the new one a read when Mbotf is over and we're still waiting for A Dance with Dragons in 2011.

He wants to build an addition to his house and didn't have enough dollar bills to both make and insulate the walls for the full six levels. Making window glass out of pure dollar bills isn't easy.

I've only read the first book, but... didn't he finish this series? What value could there be to going back and milking the side characters?

Same value as Erikson going back and "milking" the Tiste Andii or Karsa...:)

From his announcement it's going to a slightly shorter, though still full length novel, that occurs chronologically between the end of Wizard and Glass and the beginning of Wolves of the Calla, filling in some of the gaps in the story.

Quote

It won't tell you much that's new about Roland and his friends, but there's a lot none of us knew about Mid-World, both past and present. The novel is shorter than DT 2-7, but quite a bit longer than the first volume—call this one DT-4.5. It's not going to change anybody's life, but God, I had fun.

"But I saw you [Snake]…faced by Anomander [Mandy] himself. How did…"
"I escape? Well, I dazzled him with fancy words, edging ever closer, then used my ninja skills to strike like a cobra, knocking the sword [Spamnipur] away and drop-kicking him over the side before tumbling backwards, slaying another Piss'd Andii on the way."
Silence. Lots of silence. "Fine!" He shrugged and grinned, "Someone hit him in the face with a coin, and he cursed just long enough for me to get away." ~ Excerpt from Gardens of the Tea Spoon

Between this and the screen adaptation, it's going to be a big few years for DT fans. Posted Image

Fixed.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Wait, what? Screen adaptation???? ohmygod

(Until I got into MBotF, DT was my favorite fantasy series, though I still can't bring myself to reread it.)

Yessiree.

I had and still have some issues with books 5-7 in the series, everything from overall continuity to some specific choices
Spoiler
but all in all I was satisfied with the conclusion. Books 1-4, particularly 4, are still unassailable in my eyes.

Yeah, I thought some of that
Spoiler
was kind of awkward. I'm pretty sure that lead to what was the most heartbreaking scene I'd ever read
Spoiler
. . . until I got into reading the Malazan books.

It's been - wow - 6 years since I sat down and read the whole series, so I've forgotten vast swathes of plot. I don't think I can bring myself to reread Wizard and Glass fully again (that was my 3rd reading of it); part of that plot was just too painful. But I was really satisfied with most of the conclusion of the series.
Spoiler

Anyway! I am excited - and worried - about a film adaptation. Wow.

I really enjoyed The Dark Tower. Loved it even, and yes, even the ending. I just don't feel any desire at all to revisit the world.
