Malazan Empire: Jolly Green Giants - Malazan Empire

Apologies if this issue has been raised elsewhere, but I'd like to hear what people think these giant jade statues are, particularly in the light of Heboric's vision. Not only are there thousands of them but they are in some way connected to the Crippled God.
And there are people inside them who can't get out.
What gives?

Do I think T'lan Imass are hard? Not really. More like crunchy .
