Ok, so I really am looking forward to getting L4D2, so I decided that I better play the original first before I get the sequel. To be honest, I don't understand all the praise it gets. It has literally no story, and the 'campaigns' are just different ways to get rescued. To me it seems kind of half done. I would have loved it if there had been some semblance of a story. As it is, it's basically mindless zombie-killing. No background to the infection, nothing. There's a grand total of 7 weapons, the AI is fairly placid at times (you can sit on a traincar and shoot every single zombie from a distance and none of them react to the shots), and there's really not all that much variety to what you have to do.
Still, there's nothing like bitchslapping a zombie with a shotgun and watching his neck crack and his blood splatter all over the walls. On that note, the blood effects and the physics are fairly amazing, and fighting the zombie hordes and filling 50 zombies with bullets is great fun. But heaps of replayability? It does get kind of boring after a while. I only spent around 3 hours on it. So tell me, am I missing something? Am I being too critical? Why do people love this game so much?

Drinksinbars is right, all the fun comes out when you play with your friends. I wouldn't ever consider playing it solo.

I've been playing a lot of versus lately and its really challenging and pretty freaking fun. Also, L4D 2 is supposed to have more of a "story" and a wider variety of weapons, so it should be more up your alley if you like the gameplay. But seriously, most shooters that do have a story, most people just skip past it anyway, so who cares? I've never played a shooter that has more replayability, personally.

This.
Especially playing with 3 other people you know.
Playing by yourself sucks balls. And the computer is stupid and boring.
Get on Xbox Live, get a gamertag, and play with us. If you dont like it then its just not for you, and your gay.
I've always been crazy but its kept me from going insane.

Yeah it is great with others.
In my dorm, a few rooms on the floor have xbox w/ live, so we put 2-3 guys on each xbox and play survival mode.
It gets so insane and is very fun. You can hear us yelling from any floor. So definitely better with others.
Plus a bunch on guys on here have it too- me, DiBs, SB, ED- and we occasionally play together. Which we should do more of (SB, you have a mic yet? Would be awesome).
SB- +rep for last line of above post.

pc is cheaper and you get mods, but xbox live is ease of use for a lot of us on the board. depends on what you have

i has both. only ever bought one bluray, to be perfectly honest, its not as much as a difference as i found wihth hddvds
i do really love both consoles though and ps3 has lots of good stuff coming out soon. online side xbox is miles better the match making on ps3 is terrible, like really really terrible. l4d only on xbox though or pc of course.

well I supposed you have to do it DiBs, I hear that Uncharted is one of the better PS3 franchises out there. No owning a PS3, I wouldn't know. I find myself to be too much of a xbox fanboy.
Not sure if I'm going to buy 2 yet. Absolutely must have CoD and Dragon Age which come out 11/10 and 11/3 respectively. Adding L4D2 to the list would be 11/17 and mean that I dropped too much money during the month hehe. Plus I have to buy a new subscription to Live (buy the 12 month plan one at Best Buy and it comes with a CoD shirt!!!)
Maybe a little later on, like February.

Ok, I retract my previous statement. Played this drunk with a few mates on one of their Xbox's on Friday night on Expert mode, and it was AWESOME.

drunk on expert? must have been insane and very very hard.
That's what I was doing at 2am last night hehe. It was fun, we were going survival mode on the hospital level.

well i never got round to trading it, as they decided to drop the trade in value to £7 down from 25 so didnt seem worth it. if people are still playing and see me on bounce me an invite. never bothered to finish on expert, would be interesting to try that.

Yeah, it took us about 10 goes to finish the farmhouse level lol we'd be going fine and then the Tank would come and f&#$ us up something fierce.

I wish I had it on Xbox, then I could play online. My multiplayer on the computer is all screwy for some reason.
@DiBs, it is mega hard. Tank hits around 50-75 damage with one hit, regulars are about 5 a hit and hunters and shiz do around 10 a hit, so you gotta hope your mates are paying attention or you'll be torn to pieces in seconds if you get trapped by those special infected.

Was just talking about trying it on Expert right before i got on here. We can handle advanced, but its still pretty damn hard.
I think the trick for us is keeping the shotgun away from Eddie, he's fond of friendly fire.
