Does anyone else have an account at goodreads.com? If anyone gives a crap they can find me on there as mandog. If you dont know what it is, its a place where you can go and and keep a database of books. Rate them, keep track of what you want to read, and get recommendations. I dig it.

Hmm, looks interesting. Kinda like the Visual bookshelf App on Facebook?
Only more sophisiticated it seems.
I'll probably sign up when I get home and look into more to see if it's worth the time.

Indeed.
One thing I like about it is it can be as complex as you want it to be, or as simple. Just want it too keep track of your shit, it can do that. If you want to write a full on review for every book you've ever read, you can do that too. It did take a little time getting the majority of the crap I wanted on there, on there. But, I'm done with that part now, so all is well.
Let me know what you think of it, and if you want drop me your user name, so I can see your ratings.

I'll throw out another recommendation for people shopping the book-cataloging sites: LibraryThing, which I actually discovered after someone plugged it here a year and a half ago. It's maybe not as polished as other sites, but it has by far the best book data (culled from a zillion sources) and it allows you to manually edit any and all of your book data (including covers!) as well as manually enter books (or comics or whatever) that you can't find anywhere else. Plus, the developers and owner are friendly and accessible, and active on the forums.
You can see my own catalog here.

May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

I will have to check this out. I recently joined librarything.com, after being introduced to it by Salt Man Z. It sounds like the same thing as this site. I'm still loading all of my books on there, it's taken me a while.
Do you have to pay for a membership to this site? I know library thing allows you to load something like 100 books and then they ask for a yearly fee which allows you to load unlimited books. I paid the max fee which was something like $20.00, but they accept small donations as well.
I wouldn't mind having more than one site going, especially if this one is user friendly. I'll track you down if I end up joining. Thanks for the heads up!

I am on both actually. I like Librbarything, but find that I use goodreads.com more. I like that goodreads ties into facebook, and I just like the format a bit better. But, I do use both.

What's your handle on LT?

I am on Goodreads for half an year. Really like it. You can use it as diary where you mark every book you have ever read. You can create TRL (to-read-list). You can create different bookshelves. You can meet new people. You can add any number of books to your list. 100, 200, 300...whatever, I mean all your lists, such as read, to read, liked, hated etc., all together can be 1.000+ books. It is absolutely free vs. LibraryThing that allows only the first 200 books for free. If you want a longer list (and if you want to list all books you read it definitely will be more than 200), you have to pay. I have not visited shelfari but heard some bad reviews, although I didn't check it myself.

I'm on Goodreads (and Librarything). I'm not terribly active but I do keep things fairly current. I'm inactive at Librarything because it costs money - can't abide by that.

Well, I finally went and added the majority of the to-read books on my booksheld and those in the wishlist from where I buy books.
A fair decent stack of those are non-fiction as well.
Also added most of the books that I've read so far. I've probably forgotten stacks of fantasy ones that I read as kid.
Account name is Mushroom as well!

Got a lot of work to do to organize things and find all the books I've read.
