This forum is easily the best I've come across. The only other one I've actually joined though was Westeros, but I never really got into it, as I don't really like GRRM and the company wasn't as cool.

...Most of them do little beyond hijacking noob threads with some crazy stuff about poisoned cookies and setting people on fire and eating fish...

I shall join immediately.

I wish you weren't being sarcastic. It's a good little forum if you ever want an on-the-side WoT one to check occasionally as the last three books come out. Posted Image We have off-the-wall WoT discussions, but we have good ideas I think.

let's put it this way... i lost my interest in WoT fandom a long time ago. There's only so many times i can discuss who killed Asmodean or whether Bela is in a Trolloc, trollop, or just a slutty horse, before things got old. And the last few books did little to reel me back in. But it is possible the finale trilogy will bring me back and if it does, i'll check out your site.

Once upon a time i was active with various X-men related fan forums. That got old eventually. I've tried a few other forums, Bakker's is so cold and dead it barely registers, Lynch's wasn't much better. I like the Dresden forums in theory but in execution they are laid out in a way that isn't very readable and the fandom is, well, less sophisticated than i like. And the forums for those tv shows i follow are just... feh. LOST forums aren't bad but there is so much repetition it gets painful. FRINGE has potential to generate some fun exchanges.

We haven't had a proper Asmodean debate at Theoryland in years. It's definitely one of the less interesting mysteries of the series...and Bela is a Theorylander, so that's no mystery. :)

I think the only other forum I know of that I would consider posting on besides 4chan is the penny arcade forums:

http://forums.penny-...e.com/index.php

But to be honest the "vibe" and tendencies of the posters is completely different from my own mentality and I've never done anything that lurk there.

The forum is dedicated to the (gaming) blog and web-comic Penny Arcade which, judging by their member count is a very popular site. Their off-topic area is called Social Entropy and the name fits. There's hundreds if not thousands of people active and their threads quickly evolve. The posts are a mix of adolescent nerd rage, (not so)clever trolls and witty assholes which generates content I find funny to read through. I have yet to decypher their in-jokes and own meme's but it seems to evolve around cocks. Lots and lots of cocks :)

I can't really figure out what age people are but they seem to be mostly teens and some older people amongst them.

Penny Arcade is THE webcomic, the benchmark by which all others are measured. Essentially all other webcomics - gaming webcomics in particular - are trying to emulate their success. I'm not surprised there's tonnes of people on the forums.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I was an old-time regular of one of the biggest Transformers forums (The AllSpark, where I debuted my "Salt-Man Z" handle) back in the day, until the user base got to big and n00b-y and politicking started to get out of hand.

The only other forum I post at now is mostly made up of old-timer AllSpark "refugees", probably a dozen or so regulars who hang out and chat about Transformers and comics and life. The owner is a former AllSpark admin who runs a "benevolent dictatorship" but basically it's a self-governed community. If you pop in and act like a douche, you'll get chased off right quick. It's nice to have a small, tight group like that. Plus, the name of the forum is the best ever: the Board of No Return, aka BoNR. ;)

It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

As for Penny-Arcade, can you believe those guys? I mean, the clout and influence those guys have amassed over the past decade or so is just unreal. Imagine being able to say "hey, we should run a holiday charity for children's hospitals" and rake in over a million dollars, with corporate sponsors with names like Microsoft and Blizzard who not only donate cash, but give up for auction all sorts of one-of-a-kind and limited edition goodies. Or decide to hold a convention that quickly becomes THE big video game expo of the year, every year, with everyone who's anyone in the industry in attendance.

Suffice to say, I am constantly blown away by everything those guys do. (And their comic is funny, too!)

Now, if only I could get Tycho to put his talented pen toward a good fantasy novel...
