Yeah if Toby hands you a bunch of nice looking stuff then runs, the police are just around the corner. I can see the headline now: "Canadian Thief & Smuggler Lands 20 Years" ;)

I'll claim Parks immunity. Which is like Diplomatic immunity only with more animal pursuit and fear.

And I'm working on the phone thing. I'll send a PM to everyone demanding your phone number and favorite sexual position soon.

Hey! Re Int'l cell phone, a few people of my acquiantances have had good things to say about http://www.brightroam.com/

..in a Canadian called one day, got the phone by free courier the next, no problems using the phone specifically in the UK kind of way.

Mezla's got a point - Carphone Warehouse covers all the bets - here's a link to the Pay As You Go deals for you to take a look at.

Thank you all for your wonderful advice. I will make sure to buy everything from Toby, regardless of how shady and illegal it may seem.

The Carphone Warehouse looks like my best best. There's a vendor only 20 minutes away from my place in East Croydon. I'll get a cheap little pay-as-you-go phone and that way we can all communicate. Expect many hung up calls and heavy breathing.

The Chain of Pants is a force for good! It has just saved me from a really shit work party. Forgive the overfamiliarity, Rodeo but "My friend is visiting from Canada" is an excuse that cannot be argued with and requires no elaboration. Back of the net.

Well, you are getting better at saying "no" to things Mezla!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I do what I can.

I even had a friend loan me a phone she bought in France. We'll see if I can just buy a new SIM card for it once I land.

I don't have a cell phone and I've sent exactly two texts in my entire life. Both while I was so drunk that I wrote each text like T H I S A N D I T T O O K M E A L O N G T I M E . Wasn't even my phone. I stole it from a friend and texted his fiancee whilst he beat the everloving hell out of another buddy who was already passed out. Ah, I miss summer time.

Dear God man, is Canada stuck in the 1950s or something? Or is it just you? Even my nan uses a mobile phone, and she's in her 70s.

Who are you going to see first, you can actually get free sims from some companies I think O2 do them for their customers so someone might be able to get you one, I've no idea whether you can just buy them in the shops though. You'll also need to work out what network the phone is made for as not all cards work with all phones.

Not long before you leave - is your itinerary still more or less as you planned it?
It has to be one of the biggest pub crawls I've ever seen :)
