"I'm sure you and I can come to an agreement," the man with the grey hair said, leaning back in his rocking chair. The radio on the window sill softly played a classic by the Buena Vista Social Club.
"I could use a holiday with undeterminable length," the man with the weathered face and the half-closed eyes replied, toying with the dogtag around his neck.
"Of course, but there is something you should do for us first."
"No rewards without efforts," the other agreed.
"Betray your country for our cause."
"I figured, but wanted to be sure. Go fuck yourself. Next time I see you, you're dead."

~~~
Out of the jungle, about six miles from Citte Anaranjado, the capitol city of Isla Verdia, a man came, radio slung over his back, minigun in hand, Irish ancestry visible through the lovely red sunburn the day in the bush had caused him. Protocol demanded proper entrenchment, and he found it in a nearby deserted shack.
"Delta's position is secure for now, ready for action," he reported.
So it looks like failed recruitment of an American ( do other nationalities wear dog tags?)
second one... not quite sure. Doesn't Delta refer to American Strike teams? as in Delta force? idk... but it looks like a "passing of time" action. Like after 3 day/night cycles you blow a bomb killing 3 ppl. All i could come up with on that one.
Delta is standard military lingo for the letter D, I think. So not necessarily American - the Irish would seem to imply British, although there are a lot of Irish Americans....see what you mean about the "passing of time" thing. Not sure about the 'bomb' idea though, don't really see any basis for that. Could be some kind of delayed activation of ability thing, I guess.
"Fuck you."
"I beg your pardon?"
"I said fuck you, pretty boy."
The man with the long hair and hispanic features frowned. He knew he looked like an improved version of Antonio Banderas with blue eyes, but while many men were envious of it and would love to mar his face with a few unsightly scars, few dared to take him on - he had the easy stance of a martial artist.
"Seems to me you're looking for a fight, big man," he said, removing one hand from his trouser pocket, bringing up a cigarette. He looked at the giant in front of him. Bulky, covered in tattoos extending all the way to his hands, peeping from under the tasteless red shirt. Blond crew cut, small brown pig eyes glittering with malice.
The giant moved faster than he could anticipate, grabbing him by the balls, smashing an elbow into his arm.
"I said: fuck you." the guy snarled, then headbutted him on the nose, which snapped. The brute left him lying on the street, in what the Hispanic man saw as a lesson in humility.
Only someone with this much power could make this many frittatas without breaking any eggs.
More like quadruple, by the looks of things. :)
Now that last scene, I have absolutely no idea about whatsoever.
These stories are well written and entertaining, that's pretty much all I get from them.
I have no idea about the fight, maybe a rebuffed recruitment attempt... doesn't seem like a failed vig. Maybe someone had a body guard?
@ Ruse the bomb thing was just an idea, probably stemmed from the irish mention.
iirc PS said they were meant as guides or to denote actions taken. So there is significance to them for sure.
I don't think it's a good idea to just dismiss them like that - after all, they are providing information. It's just rather cryptic. As the game goes on, I imagine we'll start seeing some patterns emerge, and they'll become more useful.
Convoluted, but I assume Mr. Hispanic (which nationality would he be, anyway? Doesn't really sound French, although in the opening scene it was mentioned that half the population of this place have French ancestry...) is now no longer the beautiful figure he once was now his nose is broken. Maybe he lost some kind of power because of it?*
*That's pretty wild speculation there, I'll admit. Can't think of anything else that would make the scene relevant though. It doesn't sound like a vig attempt, because if the guy had headbutted him he could probably have finished him off. Bodyguard might be a possibility, I suppose. But which one was the bodyguard? The brute or the Hispanic guy?
I doubt it, I'm going to be heading off fairly soon. And spamfests aren't my style.
I am not dismissing the stories, I simply don't get much from them, and I am trying to be cautious. But I am definitely not dismissing them.
Fair enough, fair enough.
I had a read through the posts at the top of the thread, and noticed that the point scoring system is subtly different for each team. I was particularly interested in the 2 point sections:
Quote
Americans:
2 points: 2 points for each player that used his or her Operation.
Quote
British:
2 points: 2 points per completely investigated spy team of another nation.
Quote
French:
2 points: having 1 or more uses of a protective ability remaining. Foreach French player fulfilling this condition, 2 points are added.
Quote
Russians:
2 points: 2 points per BP remaining at the end of the game.
So to me that implies that American actions are going to be more focused on 'Operations', whatever they are (possibly what that 'Irish' guy was doing?), British on finder type operations, French on healer type stuff, and Russians on BPs? Just a thought for use in classifying these NA scenes. I would imagine they are generalisations, given that by the sound of it everyone is going to be having multiple abilities at some point, but might be something to think about.
He walked down the street, hood drawn up, cursing the heat and wishing for the cold wetness of his motherland. Fuck this mission. He stopped next to jeep, spray-painted black with red tribal patterns on the side. He recognized the patterns from a briefing, and besides, it was too flashy for Isla Verdia.
A lipstick and a bit of iron wire opened the door, a quick tug under the dashboard brought his hand into the cabling, fingers searching for the little red wire that should be there. He pulled, then backed off into an alley.
A giant of a man appeared, blood on his forehead black in the streetlights. Apparently the fucker had been in a fight already. Pity that, he had hoped he could have stopped the man from causing harm, it wouldn't do to underestimate the brute. He sauntered off as a stream of curses involving the anatomy of just about every mammal and saint poured in a never ceasing litany from the car.
Only someone with this much power could make this many frittatas without breaking any eggs.
Sounds like a theory, Ruse. It's definitely an interesting aspect of the game, these stories. I am somewhat skeptical about how much they will actually help, but it's sort of fun to try to decipher them, so all good.
I can't make heads or tails of that one either. It sounds like the protagonist is Russian from the "Motherland" thing. Maybe he was sabotaging the brute's car? Some kind of BP removing action, perhaps?
He was definitely doing something with the car, but I'm not sure what it could mean.
Ok confusing CF, don't know what to make of it. So the scenes are now obviously actions, damn quite a lot of actions.
Delta is used by a lot of armies, just standard word used for D, I don't agree the settling down is for setting a bomb, most explosive experts tend to find somewhere more interesting to look at the second they lay an explosive, no it's more likely a sniper, so it could be when the target arrives on thread the said sniper shoots them.
The Remark on "Delta" being Irish suggests that he more likely American, there more Irish Aericans than there is Irish, I think it like a 2 to 1 ratio.
Yeah, not sure about that one... it is written kinda ambiguously. I kept losing track of who was who in the narrative. Any idea on the tribal markings of the car? That seemed odly out of place.
