so is the guy who lost all of his body parts shurq's first mate because in reaper's gale shurq mentions losing her first boat in laughter's end to a mare escort and pretty seemed to have lost the same bodyparts

Interesting. The unfortunate sailor's name in Lees is "Gust Hubb." However, I've loaned my copy of Reapers Gale to a friend of mine so I can't confirm if Shurq's first mate is the same person...

His name is Skorgen Kaban. But I definitely thought the same thing and I still think it is him. People in this world change their names all the time, so why not?

There's obviously a common theme, but if you want to be super-technical about it then you have the problem that Gust lost both his ears, while Skorgen apparently.

Still, Gust loses:
-his nose
-both ears
-an eye
-a crippled front of one foot

and Skorgen has:
-a missing nose
-a missing ear
-a missing eye (which he says was a different color)
-a limp

So it's not too far-fetched (and maybe SE just forgot he lost both ears)

So who then is Shurq? Is she related to the glum Captain Sater somehow? And looking at the world map, how then does Pretty end up in Lether?
