I'll swap my spam for yours!

Ehm, anyway, hello! I'm new here too, and I've been reading the Malazan books for a while. I thought I might as well convert another site to my worship between trying to find some decent spam. ;) I've been lurking for a while, but i've finally garnered the courage to approach you... Ah, reclusive denizens. Don't eat me!

Heya everyone...

It's actually strange how I got here, seeing as no one I know (despite that fact that several of my friends are avid readers of fantasy literature) had ever heard about the series before, and I found it by pure coincidence. Was browsing a bookstore one day not too long ago because I wanted to buy a random book for myself and went straight for the fantasy department, and there I bought Gardens of the Moon on instinct after reading a relatively obscure plot summary. While it took a little while to into it, I knew I was sold immdiately. Since then I've read Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice and I'll probably soon take House of Chains under scrutiny. Meanwhile I've forced a couple of my friends to start reading the series :-P

Its an amazing series, just don't expect to comprend it in it's entirety! I've read and reread almost the entire written series and still dumbstruck on some threads!

Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I'm an aspiring writer, mechanical engineer and hot rod builder. I'm currently a retail manager and maintenance technician for a company that provides services to truck drivers (IdleAire, Inc.). Married with FOUR kids and a cat. Obviously, like everyone else here I'm sure, I love the Malazan books. I honestly believe they're the best fantasy series to have ever been written (every time I read another, I get discouraged in my own writing - I don't see any way I could ever compare; no other series has ever made me feel that, and I've read quite a bit.) I'll probably spend quite a bit of time in the writing forums and any political threads that appear anywhere, as well as lurking everywhere else (I'm a GREAT lurker. None better!) I look forward to interacting with all of you.

Welcome, welcome, GGG. I'm sure the writers will love to have you and read your contributions, and I look forward to interacting with you too. Hope you have a great time here.

Hi there - I'm a 37 year old father of 1 and have been following the books since they first came out - as a full time carer for my disabled daughter I get to spend a good bit of time reading and these are far and above 99.9% of the "dross" churned out.

One question I wanted to ask though is I can't seem to find the latest book "Dust of Dreams" on sale as an ebook anywhere in EU or UK - any kind person able to point me in the right direction?

cheers

Khazaad

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Greetings and felicitations.
I've been hovering faceless and silent for years on this site and am finally admitting I'm an addict. Isn't that the first step to recovery? Hmmm, maybe this isn't such a good idea...
At any rate, I picked up GotM at our public library in 2000 and was hooked before the first chapter finished. Returned it to the library and bought my own (now tattered) copy. Have tried to browbeat everyone I know, and even some I don't, into joining me in my addiction, to no avail. Perhaps they are alarmed by the annual required re-read before the publication of the next volume. My daughter, on the other hand, who refuses to read the series, works in a large bookstore and is quite successful in pushing SE on un-suspecting customers - go figure.
How many Canadians are there here? I don't think I've seen too many which is kinda funny since SE is Canadian and so many of the landscapes he describes are so familiar - okay, maybe not Morn or Gennabakis, but sure a heck the cold, forest-y, mountain-y, prairie-y and tundra-y ones are.
Thanks to the powers-that-be for all your great work over the years. I've enjoyed the ride vicariously but now am ready to join in.

Welcome! We have people from Canadaland. They are some of our more colorful characters, actually. Look for the naked man being molested by wildlife and the cat eating brains.

Hi there new people and welcome to the forums. We're generally quite nice. Honest. Although I would say that... :D

@ Amaunet - We do have the odd (and I do mean very odd!) Canadian here. They're pretty easy to spot ;)

@ Kazaad - DoD is pretty easy to get online. I'd advise using the Amazon link on the site home page. And, if you're in the UK, you can pop into most large (and some small) bookshops and find it.
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Hi,

I registered a few days ago but just saw this thread.

I'm 32, a father of two boys (2 and 4) living near Ottawa. I'm a librarian working in a school library. I love to read of course. My favorite sports are hockey (Duh), NFL football, boxing and football (soccer). My first language actually is french so I may sometimes have a bizarre spelling and use weird verb tense so please bear with me. I'm not illeterate, just too lazy to always "re-read myself". Hello all, I'm pretty new to the Malazan world (just finished HoC recently and trying to pace myself so that i don't read them all too quickly) only been reading them for a few months, lurked for a few weeks and after reading the Twilight bashing thread (well parts of it, its rather long) realised you were all such lovely people I had to join in :)
