Hey, welcome to the forums.

I'd advise reading MoI rather than a re-read. That book is fantastic, and generally held as the best in the series.

Enjoy your stay :p

WELCOME!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Hello! I'm new here too.

I'm 27 years old from Norway, and I think (my memory isn't sure about this) I started reading MBOTF because I found GOTM on sale, had heard the name and thought it looked fascinating. I've read some fantasy before (mostly Wheel of Time) and wanted something different, something darker and cooler and better and different.

Now I've read Gardens of the Moon and Deadhouse Gates, and wow! Yeah! MBOTF is simply fantastic! Let me put it this way: it's the first fantasy I've read that's made me get tears in my eyes (that was near the end of Deadhouse Gates... I won't say anything else (to not spoil for anyone) but if you've read it I guess you know what part I mean.)

My favorite character so far is Sorry/Apsalar - she rules :)

Right now I'm thinking of either starting Memories of Ice, or re-reading GOTM & DG..

Well, after-dinner coffee & back to work for me now!

If you live below the Arctic circle you aren't proper Norwegians.

EDIT: Which means that no one loves you. Yes, that's right. No one!

'Tell me, Tool, what dominates your thoughts?'
The Imass shrugged before replying. 'I think of Mafia, Adjunct.'
'Do all Imass think about Mafia?'
'No. Few think at all.'
'Why is that?'
The Imass leaned his head to one side and regarded her. 'Because, Adjunct, they are sheeple.'

Malazan Empire goes multigenerational... Great! As if I wasn't feeling old enough already?

Anyhow... Welcome Lucy... And listen to your mother! I've wanted to say that for years but never had the opportunity before :)
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Maybe she likes the Beatles? Anyways, welcome Lucy. Your mother has a stellar reputation on these forums, so we're expecting big things from you. Oh, and she's right, go do your homework, THEN waste your life on the forums.
