I'm choosing to finish the Erickson books first, just started The Crippled God last night. Still haven't decided whether to start Esselmonts books or Forge of Darkness next,or reread Erikson's 10 giant, brilliant tomes. So torn.Hoods balls, what to do.?...

After finishing Crippled God, read Esslemont, then Forge of Darkness

The Esslemont books will fill in major gaps and apparent loose plot threads from the Books of the Fallen, as his books are meant to be read side by side with the Erikson ones and the two authors divided up characters and events between them.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Thanks for help gorefest , I can't wait to start the ICE novels and FoD, wish I would've looked into this reading order stuff before I finished Toll the Hounds, and another thing comes to my mind...why aren't more people raving about these books,to my mind they are just as good if not better than GoT.

I guess for many people the sheer size of the series is a daunting prospect. And it does very much seem to be a series that splits readers: you either fall in love with it or you don't even make it past the first few volumes. Some people revel in the sensation of being battered by spiked clubs appearing from out of nowhere and leaving you bemused and bedraggled, slightly frothing at the mouth, whereas other people prefer a more manageable environment that doesn't involve continuous challenge and careful dissection.

Hi guys, I'm new here. I only found this site about a month ago and was debating whether to join or not, but after reading the series I just have to talk to people about it.
"I walked this land when the T'lan Imass were but children. I have commanded armies a hundred thousand strong. I have spread the fire of my wrath across entire continents, and sat alone upon tall thrones. Do you grasp the meaning of this?"
"Yes" said Brood , "you never learn".

Welcome! That last comment is borderline spoiler territory though, might be worth spoiler tagging.

Sorry about that it's difficult to talk about this series without some spoilers but I'll do my best to avoid them at all cost.

Hello there everyone.. I've finally been absorbed into the world of the Malaz Empire and cant wait to be engrossed in it. After reading online that this series was recommended as one of the best in epic fantasy, I just knew I had to get this. And I cant wait to have discussions with everyone here once I've finished the series!

hiyas - just signed up to try to find a poem from the 4th or 5th book
- written by Toc the Younger and I think called 'Lay of the Bridgeburners'
- lines I remember:
"I have seen the face of sadness
She turns her face away ..."
I have tried to always keep a copy but lost track in recent upheavals
would appreciate if anyone remembers this and can copy it to me
Tweet it to @raggidman ??
Thanks a lot! And happy burnings of bridges ^^

You can find it here:
http://malazan.wikia...e_Bridgeburners
"I have seen the face of sorrow
She looks away in the distance
Across all these bridges
From whence I came
And those spans, trussed and arched
Hold up our lives as we go back again
To how we thought then
To how we thought we thought then
I have seen sorrow's face,
But she is ever turned away
And her words leave me blind
Her eyes make me mute
I do not understand what she says to me
I do not know if to obey
Or attempt a flood of tears
I have seen her face
She does not speak
She does not weep
She does not know me
For I am but a stone fitted in place
On the bridge where she walks"
[edit]I think it's actually from Reaper's Gale, book 7 in the series.
