Welcome hadoken13!

Always nice to have another N7 amongst us! XD

Hey thanks Loki (would you believe Mass Effect 3 has been sitting unplayed on my shelf for months now - waiting to play Dragon Age 2 and Skyrim first - too busy to get some game time this year).

You'd delay in order to play Skyrim first? :)

You have to understand, to Loki you have just committed blasphemy! Ha!

Inside site joke. "I am Dolores Menhir and I think this post is stupid" Original phrase used "thread" instead of "post"

I'm shunned, shocked, stupified, and bewildered you didn't link him to Lizra's acronym thread for Newbs.

You're losing your touch, Gusty. :p

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Welcome, O User of Big Fat Bold Red Text.

Which is all very well but text that big and that red only makes the multitude of grammatical errors that much more glaringly obvious.

Hi all. I'm from the south suburbs of Chicago (30/m). I love the Malazan books, except for that one about the Darujhistan Tyrant. My Kindle broke recently so I haven't been able to read the new book. I'm going back to that barbaric method that uses trees and ink.

BTW - I have a tip for the forum owner /admin. I've been working in the online marketing field for many years (gambling mostly). I've noticed that this site is under-monetized. There is an easy way to really generate some revenue from Amazon (or anywhere). There are scripts that will automatically link a specific keyword/phrase to the related affiliate landing page. For example, every time someone says "Gardens of the Moon" or GOTM (or whatever you want) it will automatically be linked to the Amazon page for that book, via your affiliate link. You can do this with any phrase / word and link that you want. The best part is you can set it up so that only people who are not logged in see the links (search traffic). Since this is an IP board you may be able to accomplish this using the bad word filter or simply hiring a coder via elancer or somewhere like that (less than $100). It would take little work to get it just right (i.e. only visible to people who are not logged in, no-following the links, opening in a new window, tracking clicks..ect) but it would be worth the effort.

I say continue on with the main sequence: The Bonehunters. Then maybe NoK, then RG, RotCG etc etc.

Yah do it that way! Then you could stagger SE and ICE the rest of the way. BH, NOK, RG, ROTCG, TTH, SW, DOD, OST, TCG actually all works out!
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

How is the name Torvald Nom still available? I would have though that someone would have snatched that as fast as possible. Or is it they just couldn't resist adding "fucking" to the middle, leaving the original name in peace?

Welcome TN. I would suggest reading Illy's piece on Torvald FUCKING Nom in the hall of fame. :)

I keep waiting for someone to choose "Nom Anor" as their username. Then they could write a song about themselves to the tune of "Oh L'Amour." But then I remember that's a Star Wars character. And then I cry myself to sleep.

Shok, Oberyn - Welcome!

Glad to have you with us. This site is great for discussing every and any aspect of the books. Just don't visit a book thread until AFTER you have read it as the potential for spoilers is massive.

If you have any questions feel free to ask then and eventual someone will give you a useful answer :)

Hello, dear friends. Though you know me not by username or personage, rest assured that I have spent... like... the last six (6!) years of my life merrily trudging through the wonderful world of malazan. The Book of the Fallen, ICE's bastard children, Bauchelain & Korbal Broach, and now checking out Forge of Darkness. I don't know if anyone really can classify Crak'd Pot Trail, but then again, who would want to? It stands alone as...whatever it is. I must say I have never seen cannibalism so easily worked into a novel.

Just want you all to know that I love you already, though I barely know you, and I look forward to the thorough dissection of minutiae and theme in the days to come. How am I just now finding this site???

bhokaralasenator, accepting your legislative proposals.

Hi,

Read LOTR years ago and was reintroduced to the Fantasy genre by A Song of Ice and Fire. Read all of that in a few months and followed up by reading Joe Abercrombie's collection. Was then left looking for some gritty adult fantasy to build on what I'd read so far. Time and again I had been told of Steven Erikson by a friend at work and I have looked at Gardens of the Moon several times but didn't start to read it. However, yesterday I was surfing around looking for something to read and I again ended up looking at Gardens of the Moon. Despite many reviews saying it was hard to follow, complex etc I decided to give it a go. Have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Haven't found it that confusing. Yes, there are a lot of characters and concepts but doesn't most epic fantasy i.e Tolkien !

As I always like to talk about things I'm reading I therefore decided to join what seems to be be No 1 Malazan forum. I look forward to asking a few questions in the months (and years !) ahead.

Cheers,

Paul.
