You get reminisced about fairly regularly by some of the ancient ones, if that makes you feel any better :D

Personally I refused to introduce myself here when I joined, for fear that I would have to undergo some embarrassing initiation like getting my cherry popped at Rocky Horror. So I joined chat instead and the success of that choice is debatable...

I don't think I've introduced myself yet and apparantly that is considered rude behaviour according to someone who shall remain nameless. *coughs* Loki *coughs*

Despite having read the first 6 or 7 books the main reason for joining the forum is because Loki made me an account and then insisted I post something. I usually only look at the forum when a) Loki tells me to, b ) I want to browse the Funny Pictures thread & c) When Loki does/says something that needs to be shared on more than just Facebook.

Funny, for a website I rarely visit I seem to always know what's happening on it. Except for Team Quick Ben stuff - Loki hits me if I even go near her computer when she is in the subforum - she's so mean!

So on that note, Hello.

EDIT: Because apparantly if you type b and then ) next to each other it makes  appear.

Hi all, i'm a newly recruit!

I have read the first three books of the series and i'm absolutely thrilled by it. I've read all the most famous fantasy series but i might say that Erikson did it better than anyone. The character that i liked the most so far was probably Coltaine. The thing that i liked the most was the irony and the sense of comradeship among the various armies or gods, the Mott Irregulars and Shadowthrone above all.

Anyway in the mighty Bridgeburners i saw a lot of the Black Company of Glen Cook.

welcome, Murillo.

it's not surprising that you saw Black Company in BBs, Erickson has acknowledged Cook as an inspiration, and he has gone on record calling Cook essentially a trailblazer of a more realistic type of fantasy, which is what he himself wanted to write.

Hope you enjoy the forums, and the remainder of MBotF!

Hello everyone, I'm about a third of the way through gardens, and it pains me to say that although I'm enjoying the underlying story, I'm finding it hard to keep everything from becoming undone. It feels like I have just moved to a non english speaking country and even though I get the gist of what's going on I feel as if I'm missing out! Please tell me it gets easier, I have only just started reading again in ernest, having read A song of fire and Ice, Inheritance and the Millennium series in the past 5 mths. I'd like to get me teeth into another series but to be honest Malazan seems like hard work. The authors foreword didn't help as it put me on the back foot straight away.

GotM is supposed to feel that way, I guess, at least somewhat. I mean, you're not supposed to feel so much anxiety about it, it's just a book and all, but nobody expects you to be an expert on the world at any point within the first book. That said, usually somewhere within the second or third books, readers get the feel for things such that they stop feeling overwhelmed by information and start feeling anticipation for it. If you're the personality type that needs to know everything instantly, uh, nothing's gonna help...but I mean, you're supposed to be finding pleasure in what you read, and if hard work is antithetical to your pleasure-seeking, then to be honest that never really lets up.

Thanks for the advice I'm going to persevere, as I said I'm enjoying the underlying story I find it intriguing, as suppose I am quite impatient and like to know everything instantly but in the same breath I like the opportunity to build up a mental picture of the land and surroundings in my head, at the moment I'm just having a hard time digesting all the information or in some cases the lack thereof.

Hey gang, another new member saying "Hello".

Have read the whole series and love to re-read it as well. I have learned a lot already just by browsing some of the threads around here.

Cheers!

Hi there everyone.

I'm a long time reader of the MBotF series. I got to Dust of Dreams before the last one came out (Crippled God?) and then decided to start over before reading this last installment. The main reason for this is that my first time around was so haphazard. It all started when I was volunteering at the local library and saw Deadhouse Gates in the New Fiction section. I read it on a whim and although I had quite a bit of trouble, stemming from it not being the first book but also from being 15 at the time, I still loved it to death. I read the other books more or less in order bar missing Bonehunters and never returning to Garden of the Moon. Now that I'm going back and doing it right I'm enjoying the series even more and really getting into it. Currently I'm wrapping up Midnight Tides (not my favourite book even though Tehol is my favourite character to read) and very very excited to finally read Bonehunters (which I've already purchased and is sitting in my room.

My forum name has nothing to do with MBotF but is my name on all other forums for my various wargaming hobbies and games so I decided to keep it consistent. Actually, since this alias is about as old as my love of MBotF, its kind of appropriate.

Anyhow, I don't know if I'll be posting much on here but I decided that since I'm on co-op sitting in an office with lots of time to kill I may as well sign up.

See you in the threads!

Welcome to the boards, powerclaw! If you have any questions just ask - you'll probably get a straight answer amongst all the nonesense eventually ;)

Welcome, Powerclaw. I don't know if you'll share my reaction, but The Bonehunters is one of my favorite books in the series. It and the one after it are probably the books I enjoyed most of MBotF. So you've got some good stuff ahead of you. :)
Laseen did nothing wrong.

YES! So excited to start now. Finished off MT last night and can't wait to get reading. I saw people on the MT forum couldn't get into it but I loved every minute and some of the final showdowns were just incredible. Thanks for the welcomes guys. I've been flitting around the last few days and there are a lot of very interesting threads, both MBotF related and otherwise.
