New member KSC reporting for duty, sirs/madams.
As a longtime fantasy fan, I am shocked that this series has escaped my notice for so long. I have vague memories of seeing the cover art before, so I must have noticed them in the bookstore and passed on by. Big mistake.
The advent of Game of Thrones on HBO piqued my interest in looking for similar epic fantasy that I somehow missed the first time around. GotM is one of the books I found as a result. After the first 2 chapters, I knew I was in for a wild ride. When I was halfway through the book, I had read so many WTH moments that I started over at page 1 and read again more slowly and carefully. I am now ~ 3/4 of the way through the first book and I have already picked up the next 2. If the remaining novels are even 20% as good as this first one, I think this is destined to become my favorite fantasy series of all time.

Hello Everyone. I am very happy to have found this site. I have signed up for nearly a year now, but only now have I felt brave enough to post something. If I am not doing this correctly, please accept my apologies. I have just finished Toll the Hounds, and plan to get started on DOD in the new year. I have found the various discussions very helpful in illuminating the prodigious work that is the Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Welcome new people
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Allo Ty! I've read a few of your books, quite good fun. Nice to see an indie author join the forums.
And welcome!
Edit: Although I haven't read it, I see you had a story in the same anthology as E.E. Knight! That's awesome, I love his Vampire Earth series.

Hello the forum! New recruit reporting for duty. I'm a very recent Malazan addict. Been getting harassed by members of another fantasy book forum to get into it for a while. Finally picked up Gardens of the Moon in November. Loved it immensely, then got Memories of Ice at the beginning of the new year. I'm now halfway through Deadhouse Gates, and I got House of Chains and Midnight Tides from the library as well. Taking me less than a week to get through each book, so yeah....addicted.
This looks like a cool place. Look forward to getting to know some of you.

Hey all been reading this forum for a while but never got around to registering until the other day.
Have read all the released SE and ICE books and like every other reader have a tonne of things still to figure out.
Brilliant series and I cant wait for Orb Sceptre Throne to fill in some gaps and give me more questions.

Welcome fellow newbies As a recent addition myself, can I suggest that if you want to meet people (and aren't easily shocked ) you do some chatting? The people in there are very welcoming (generally) and you can ask stupid questions that you might not want to post in the forums. Newbie heaven!

Although on chat make sure to preface any book discussion with a mention of how far along you are in the series to avoid accidental spoilage.

New, new, new.
I came across the series after finishing The Black Company. After that, I didn't think I could ever read a better story. Then again, that's what I thought when I finished Sword of Truth before that. Somehow, Night of Knives came into my possession and it got me started on the Malazan Empire. I admit, while this series is quickly rivaling BC for my favorite EVER, I'm still trying to piece out the chronology since I seem to have read Esslemont's books before I ever picked up GotM.

Ask questions in the book forums if you aren't sure what order to read in or about anything really. We are an eager lot to convert people to Malazanism.
By the way, if you've made your way here you're at least interested so the order of the book forums is the same reading order generally recommended for maximum Malazan profit or comprehension. FYI.
Welcome everybody!

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I've often come to this forum as a reference, since the Malazan world can get pretty dense sometimes. I just finished tCG and decided I have lurked long enough. I was crossing my fingers I would be able to get the name itkovian, since I use it as my id in video games and other forums, but to no surprise it was already taken. Guess I'll have to settle with my old ID haha
Anyways, now that I've read all of Erikson's novels, I plan to start on Esslemont's soon and I'll be coming here if I have more questions
