Hello people. A friend of mine introduced me to the Malazan book of the fallen a few months ago, and I soon got hooked. I am in the closing chapters of Return of the CG, Reapers Gale is on its way from Play.com, and I start my holiday on Friday. Life is pretty good right now.

It's funny that it took me so long to find this forum. I've spent the last two years talking to anyone who would listen about the majesty that is MBoTF. I've gotten nothing but thanks from the people who actually took the time to start reading it. It's such a pleasure to read and re-read these books they bring a smile to my face everytime. It was almost painful finishing tCG knowing the series was coming to an end, so you could imagine my joy when I found this forum and heard about more books from SE about WU aside from the ones from ICE. It's good to be here and I hope to stay for a long time to come.

Hi all. I've been a regular poster at kevinswatch.ihugny.com (which was started so fans of Stephen R. Donaldson's Thomas Covenant books could talk) for eight and a half years now. I'm Fist and Faith, if you're ever there. So I was talking to another member, asking what she thought I should read next. Based on what I was saying about my other favorites (Covenant, Earthsea, Neverness...), she thought Bakker would be good, even though she preferred Malazan. For some reason, I never got more than a few pages into The Darkness That Comes Before. Just didn't have the time to read anything at all at that moment, I think. Anyway, when I next DID have time, I tried GotM. Well, I've never read anything close to the size of TMBotF, and I've never read anything of any size at a faster pace. I'd sound like a real geek telling you how incredibly moved and enthralled I am by Malazan. Hell, I'm a 47 yo father of three on my second marriage, and my heart races when anything Malazan comes up the way a 13 yo girl's does when she reads Twilight. Is there a more powerful phrase in all of literature or history than Chain of Dogs? No, there is not.

So, an introduction. Slightly silly, but OK.

I started reading TMBotF series years and years ago (2000/2001/2002?), my library had them. As this was my sole source of books back then and it was a Dutch library, I read Gardens of the Moon and Deadhouse Gates in Dutch. Because the translations of the books after that actually were never done (I believe a new translator has started on the series a while back, not completely sure) and I was beginning to prefer reading in English anyway I just proceeded buying the books in their native language. And I of course reread the first two books. This lead to some amazement, as I always thought Duiker was a translated name and this clearly wasn't the case; duiker in Dutch means 'diver'. Too bad I forgot how D'ivers was translated...

And now, now I have finished the first 60 pages of The Crippled God. I waited 'till TCG came out before I even started in Dust of Dreams, because Erikson had so graciously warned us about the cliffhanger. Glad I did that, those two books really feel as one, though I must admit Toll the Hounds very much sets the endgame in motion as well. It is wondrous to see how everything is coming together and how seemingly everything and everyone is at risk of demise. Wonderful, the stakes are immensly high around the board and I am very interested in how Erikson will bring it all to a close.

There was quite some time between these last three and the first seven books for me, so some things have slipped away. Sometimes I came across a name which I didn't recognize and wasn't sure whether it was new or I just forgot about it. This forum has been a great help in that light! After a while I figured I could just as well make an account here and see if I can contribute.

Besides this whole things about these books: I'm Dutch, male, 27, a PhD candidate, lover of music (listening and playing), books, series, films and games (PC, board, pen&paper). Surprisingly, I do not consider myself a geek

My first post here on the forums, but I have been following them for a long time. I'm currently in the middle of my 12th re-read of the series. This saga came into my life maybe 4 years ago, and ive been enamored of it ever since. I've been a longstanding reader of fantasy (occasionally sci-fi) literature and it has always been my favorite genre. Hope to enjoy my time on these forums and have some fun conversations with those of you who likewise enjoy the books. Unfortunately nobody else in my area that i know has ever read them, or been able to complete one...

I purchased GotM after reading about halfway into TTH, and I enjoyed it. A LOT. I am currently finishing up DG.

I discovered MBotF, when I was looking for something similar to ASoIaF back in 2006/7.
I read all the books at least once and i plan to to a complete reread in the near future.

Something just always draws me back to the books, especially now that they are finished.
