Hey all,
Excited about finding this forum as it gives me the opportunity to discuss and debate the greatest series of books ever written (IMHO)... I am currently at the end of Reaper's Gale and looking forward to starting Toll the Hounds... This series just seems to be getting better and better, if that is possible... I am really looking forward to some back and forth with some fellow Erikson and MBotF fans!

Hello all,

Longtime Fantasy/Sci-Fi fan as I got started with SW as a little kid and love to read series like this one as it's renewed my love of great fantasy books. Longtime LOTR fan and got into WOT and will finish that series though it really spun a bit out of control but I picked up Gardens of the Moon on a whim at Half Priced Books and have been totally hooked since. Unlike other series I've tried to pace myself with this one and not plough through the series so I just finished Toll the Hounds and purchased Dust of Dreams but I'm waiting for my copy of the Bauchelain and Korbal Broach stories to arrive to read that before moving on to Dust of Dreams.

Looking forward to posting, reading threads and others' posts and getting to
know the site better. Been on many boards before and I'm an Admin on a MMA site so hopefully I won't make too many Noob mistakes here.

Hi All,
I am a fantasy nut and I have given up on Robert Jordan, still have faith in George RR Martin and NOW have a new love for Steve Erikson. It took me 2 times to get through GOTM. Then as I kept on through DG and MOI I am so invested in these books and am so enjoying them!! See you all around!

Welcome to the forum. Keep on chuggin' through them. Be prepared for a DG style shift between characters and settings once you get to Midnight Tides and I hope you keep on loving these books.

Greatest of all time? I dunno about that. But we can hash it out if you want. Welcome to you, too.

Don't worry about being a "noob". Mostly correct spelling and a good dose of respect will have you getting along swimmingly - or hoppingly in my case.

We got a couple Texans on this board - not in Austin, but somewhere in that giant state of yers. Welcome to the board.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Hi everybody.Big fan of the Malazan world here, coming from the Netherlands. Love Steven Erikson's work, although i do not understand why he chose that name and not Rune which is a cool fantasy name. I'm a new fan, only read five novels up to now but i am awed. This has got me addicted. Every novel gets beter and better. Only one problem and that is that they are too short.

So, hi everyone.

As you can see, I've actually joined a while ago. However, I was mainly lurking and all and then I stopped coming around due to various circumstances (grad school mostly).

I discovered Erikson through an old colleague of mine, somewhere in 2007 or 2008. His description of the world, its scope, and especially how Erikson and Esslemont came to create it got me intrigued, as I myself am an avid tabletop RPG player and have worked on a few settings projects for some of my friends, as well as on my own project. So in some way it was like seeing what me and my friends were trying to do realized, and that's just awesome. At the time I was also yearning for some good reading, so it didn't take much to convince me to give it a try.

Then he told me about the Tenescowri and I went and bought the first book on my break that day. Since then I've read the series twice, re-read GoTM not too long ago and am now on my third read of DG.

So er, I admit to not having read through the thread so I don't know what I'm supposed to say. But uh, I'm a grad student in philosophy, doing my MA on naturalized epistemology and more precisely on non-sentential epistemologies in relation to cognitive neurosciences. Not that it's important, but since school is a big part of my life, I thought I'd mention it. I live in Montreal, Canada, and I'm 23. I very much enjoy cookies. I sometimes talk like Kruppe to irritate my friends.

Cheers!

Greetings to all Malazan fanatics out there. I am a crazy fan too (from Greece) and loyal supporter of the emperor Kellanved. I discovered the series by chance and yesterday I finished Reaper's Gale. Needless to say, it was amazing. I admit to some relief cause there are so many readers and to some anxiety because there are only 3 books remaining now. In any case, hi to every Imass, Bridgeburner, Bonehunter, Seguleh, Shadow dancer and all other cool guys.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Hi everyone, my name's Tom and I've been a fan of the Malaz series for years now; I've read most of them as they were published (thought my teeth would fall out while I waited for Reaper's Gale) and I used to visit this site, but my interests waned for a while. (and Toll The Hounds didn't help)... But I've got back into the series with Dust of Dreams and thought I'd give this place another try.

Did I mention I'm from Manchester? Weird how many fans there are, what with the pretty dire state of fantasy in England. Anyway yeah, hello, and so forth.

Hi, everyone. Another new member here. And another one from England, as it happens. :) I only recently became a fan of Malazan (about 6 months ago I guess) and haven't managed to complete all the books yet. Someone else started requesting them from the library before I could get further than about halfway through HoC. I went off and read other things, figuring that maybe I was best off wating until the last book was released before getting anymore into it than I already was (err, which was already pretty deep, admittedly). Enter a wonderful gran who asks me what I would like for Christmas and doesn't get put off by the fact that she has no idea what I'm talking about. All the books are now hidden away where I can't get at them until Christmas Day and I'm waiting impatiently until I can dive back in. But I have a feeling I'm going to need some serious help making sense of things at times, so here I am. :)

Hulloh, I'm Senga.

I'm not so egotistical as to make a new thread in celebration of my own arrival; so I'll make my introduction here.

I discovered these books some years ago when my roommate at the time left a copy of Gardens of the Moon in the bathroom. Honestly, the only reason I picked it up to begin with was that this particular copy had some praise on the front cover from Stephen R. Donaldson. Since Donaldson is another of my favorite authors, I decided that if it's good enough to earn his high praise I could certainly give it a chance. So I picked it up.

I had finished it the next day by virtue of electing to skip sleeping, and the day after that I found myself in Barnes and Noble blowing that week's food money on the rest of the series (Deadhouse Gates to Toll the Hounds). Fortunately my roommate also considered these books to be fair trade for an empty belly.

At present I'm rereading the series to refresh my memory and whet my appetite for Dust of Dreams. I'm halfway through House of Chains, which I think is my favorite because Karsa Orlong is the badass to end all badasses.

Also, I play secondlife a lot. SL has a rich roleplaying community, and while I entertained the possibility of perhaps trying to arrange RP in the Malazan setting (I understand it was originally written for GURPS, anyhow), I've only met one person who'd be interested in such a setting. That and the size of the world itself would be impossible to recreate without a huge chain of sims.

So. Yeah. Hey.

Hello, all!

I am from the United States and am just beginning university. I was looking for a series to occupy myself with because I needed to find a refuge from my studies. I was looking up which series would be best to read via Google, and - well - *this* popped up. I just ordered the first two books from Amazon and am looking forward to immersing myself in its covers. I want to prepare for the journey ahead, and so here I am.

I wish to find my place in life, whether it be preserver, creator, destroyer, I will live to the extent that life has to offer.

Welcome new people. Also, PURPLE TEXT is hard to read.
HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Hello everyone.

Fantasy fan and aspiring fantasy expert from Romania, currently reading into Erikson's series. Having found I now like it more than all I've previously read( granted, not too many, but enough to form a list) and after stumbing onto stuff on the internet, I decided to join the community here, and share my thoughts on what I'm reading.
Looking forward to lengthy discussions.

Having been here a year or so (with an awesome 3-4 posts), it's a very good place. Yes, the books are too short. Yes we need more of them, and yesterday not tomorrow. I found Gardens of the Moon through an Amazon recommendation (probably because I bought a lot of Glen Cook from them). SE is awesome, although he throws more characters at us than I can hold in my head before at least the third reading and the frequent point-of-view shifts have become torturous in recent novels (Toll the Hounds, IIRC, was excruciating in that regard). Nevertheless, I love the series and even decided to pay for the K&B novelettes. I certainly hope Erikson survives and perseveres to extend the series or write something else comparable, but if not, he's still immortal alongside Cook, Zelazny, Early Jordan+Sanderson, Card, E.E. Smith, Asimov, and maybe Brin, Vinge, Modessit, Saberhagan, etc. on Mount Readmore.

My prediction for the end of the series: K'rul: "Quick Ben, you are my father." (mother being a walnut, of course)

Edit: Don't know how I didn't mention Tolkien and maybe PFHamilton among the greats for Mt. Readmore. I'd hope a hungry Erikson fan would find these worth a review or read.

Hi everybody!

Here is a newbie who has just finished Gardens of the Moon. So, you will not meet me in the other subforums. But I promise to keep on reading!
I hope to say something useful soon, but I´m afraid my first post will be only a greeting :D .

I work for a Book Distribution warehouse, and am a game development hobbiest. Came to the malazan series by way of Glen Cook. Here mostly for forgotten bits of info and clarifications while I work on my hobby project.
