Hi all,

I'm Tom :p I'm studying Philosophy and Comparative Literature at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. I've only recently gotten into the Malazan series but I can't put them down. After talking to my girlfriend for hours about the chain of dogs to be met with a slightly blank expression I thought I'd join here so my enthusiasm can find its counterpart.
"On a field of battle, after the last heart has stilled, pain remains. Locked in soil, in stone, bridging the air from each place to every other, a web of memory, trembling to a silent song. But for Itkovian, his vow denied the gift of silence. He could hear that song. It filled him entire. And he was its counterpoint. Its answer." - Steven Erikson, Memories of Ice

Hey everyone,

Going through MOI right now, picked up these books about 3 months ago during a business trip. I tend to dive in then come back out for a few days, too much time invested in these novels can leave your head spinning.

Just thought I'd say what's up - You might see me pop-in here or there, depending on my workload.

Hi, I've been here for a few years, just watching and learning. I used to be Sorry but when i came back that name seemed to have gone to someone else so Im now Meese which is fine though not as good as Sorry. I love the names from fiddler to Nafarias Bredd. Read the series at least three times and at the moment I can't read anything else. Picked up some K Dick the other week and dropped by page 10 to read DOD again! At least by February 2011 it will all be over. Im going back after this to ready TTH which is my favourite then MT, did DG last week. I just cant read the last bit outside the gates of Aren without the pages bluring.
Now, ain't that just fine.

Greetings all:

I'm not a new member, but I'm an old member who hasn't been around for a while (thanks to Hetan for helping me solve my access problems.

Long time Erikson fan here. I've read and re-read the series a number of times, find something I missed in the previous readings almost every time. Had a hard time with Dust of Dreams, but expect to start my second read in the next week or so, so I'm hoping to have a better understanding once that is done.

I hail from the Ottawa, Ontario, Canada region, and am currently looking out on a glorious, sunny day.

What can I say? It's very good to be back and reading and talking all things MBotF again :p

Hi, just joined this today..
I started reading these books when Memories of Ice first came out, but I only ever got up to House of Chains (Still haven't finished it actually) unfortunately. I am, however just picking them back up now, and it seems I've catching up to do. Which suits me fine to be honest.. :(

I've never actually met anyone that's read any of of this series, so it should be good to talk to people who actually know what I'm going on about..

Cheers
Toes.

Greetings, I fell into this series on accident while I was overseas. I saw Gardens of the moon just lying on an empty table in a cafe or something. I liberated it from it's plane of imprisonment, and have been in and out ever since.

This is the meddling ways of the gods at work.

I hope to meet like minded people, or at least some truly knowledgable types as the series comes to an end and they start offering Lit courses on The Malazan Book of the Fallen.

It's bound to happen!

Welcome

HiddenOne. You son of a bitch. You slimy, skulking, low-posting scumbag. You knew it would come to this. Roundabout, maybe. Tortuous, certainly. But here we are, you and me again. I started the train on you so many many hours ago, and now I'm going to finish it. Die HO. Die. This is for last time, and this is for this game too. This is for all the people who died to your backstabbing, treacherous, "I sure don't know what's going on around here" filthy lying, deceitful ways. You son of a bitch. Whatever happens, this is justice. For me, this is justice. Vote HiddenOne Finally, I am at peace.

Hi all,

I have only discovered this series in the past few months and have steadily worked my way through to Dust of Dreams (which I finished about an hour ago). I am so impressed and excited by these books! Am excited to also find a community to talk about them with :(

My own background: am a 46 year old business systems manager with degrees in History/English, Computer Science, and Education. I originate in the UK but have spent most my life in glorious Sydney, Australia. Been reading fantasy and science fiction most my life (dad was a Doctor Who fan so there was no hope for me). Hi all :D

Hi all! I used to lurk around here when I started with the series. I've actually skipped around a bit. Started with The Bonehunters, then went to Deadhouse Gates, then Gardens of the Moon, then Reaper's Gale, then House of Chains - but they surprisingly tie each other very well - and in the middle of Midnight Tides. I've not found another fan of the series irl, so I decided to finally join. The Lady's pull on our happy little joyride. :D

Just started reading the series and really enjoy it so far.
Joined to initially make sense of the regions mentioned in Eriksons books, as the geography seems so intricate and grand.
Happy reading!

Hello to everyone from sweltering Toronto. I dream of massive Jaghut ice fields at the moment - how do I access Omtose Phellack again??? I've stumbled upon SE over a year ago - I must admit I really liked the cover of GoM and that's why I bought it (hangs her head in shame - yes I did judge by the cover, but then again I was right to do so). I haven't read too much in the fantasy genre (yes, I will admit to Jordan, Goodkind - only the first book, Tolkien, Eddings, Feist, Pratchett. Tried Martin but could not stand him... well his books, not him personally. I'm also a big Star Wars fan, although I can't seem to keep up with the novels any more). I was completely blown away by the Malazan books - Erikson created an amazing world and characters and I hate it when his books come to an end (so far, I've only read up to House of Chains - I'm pacing myself). I'm very glad that I found this site so that I can share my love and enthusiasm for SE's books with my fellow Malazans!

Hey all i made this today after looking for a Malazan forum, none of my friends read the books so i can never discuss them with anyone.
I first say TTH on the shelves and picked up the whole series that day, and read them all and read DoD a while back and have start reading the whole series for the 3rd time, i always find myself with my head in one of his books everytime im sat down, i look forward to talking to other members on this forum about the books seeing as i cannot talk to anyone else about them hahaha.

Hi, I'm George. I've been here before, a long time ago when the forum was in a different guise (love what you've done with the place guys, it looks awesome =D).

I've read all the MBotF several times (and given away more of the books than I care to remember), not started the novellas yet but I plan to, and I've read NoK and hunger for more ICE tbh so I'll be getting quite a few more books when my next paycheck drops.

Well I'll be browsing and commenting I suppose, see you on the other side! :)

Hello! I'm Nausikaa. I picked up this series maybe a few months ago and was blown away! I've just finnished Midnight Tides and am about to start The Bonehunters sometime soon. Thought it was about time I joined (very extensive site you've got here!). I read a lot of other fantasy too, but this is the most complex series I have ever read. I will definately be making use of this site!

I'll be exploring now  See you around!

Welcome to Hellequin, BPMQuicksilver, Meese, Atrate, Toes, SoulThief, Rondel, Backer, GkAnNon, Coltaine's Floozy, ThelomanToblakai, George Sengar, Nausikaa, Sowilo and Gutts!

Glad to have you, and feel free to ask any question you have, or to look through the threads for answers to questions you might have about the series!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
