Holy crap I'm so glad I found this site. I about half way through bonehunters and I have to say this is by far the series I have ever read. GoTM confused me at first, but after reading it twice it all became very clear.

anyways it good to see so many people enjoying these books.

I defy anyone - including Steven Erikson - not to be confused by GotM.

You should get some answers here though - but not from me... I just ask the questions.

Hi All, I`m new here so please be gentle with me. :-)
I have a confession to make I am yet to read any of the
books so far, I have been curious for some time having read reviews
and lots of Positive stuff around especially the reviews (mostly)
on Amazon so a couple of days ago I took the plunge and ordered
the first two Volumes from Amazon.uk and they was meant to be
here today but the Ruddy Postal Service has not got them to me so far.
I am a little afraid though after having read here and elsewhere that the
first book GOTM is difficult to get into so I am preparing myself to
Knuckle down with it. :-)
Please give some some info on what to expect from say my first plunge
into Mr Eikson`s World if you will.
I am a Big Stephen Donaldson Fan and Love the Thomas Covenant series
and of course Tolkien. :-)
I have not seen any mention on here of Tad Williams I hope you lot dont
hold him in the same Contempt as you seem to do about Terry Goodkind.
Anyway that`s it, I am here and unhappily waiting (Hopefully tomorrow)
to join in the Journey even if I am a late comer. :-)
Peace
Andrew.

Umm

Having a username as the last name of the writer is a little odd.

If you havn't read any of the books, I would suggest you start. All the forums are for people that have finished that respective book, and so you might read some major spoilers if you go perusing hte book forms

Yes, GOTM is a little confusing at first, because you are not lowered gently into one of the biggest, most realistic, and most complex 'universes', but thrown in and told to have fun.

Lots of people here like Tad, although I, and others, wished otherland was only 3 books long.

PS, if you want to share postal horror storys, ask member Abyss... and Welcome.

Well, I've been a member for about a week and I finally found this thread-

I hate to state the obvious, but MBotF is the greatest series I have ever read ever. Period. And I read ~3k pages a month sometimes, so I've been around.

Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, (which was a grind), Robert Jordan (RIP), classic fantasy (Tolkien, etc.), and a bunch of science fiction (all of Brin, Asimov, and Gibson as highlights). I am undoubtedly committing crimes of omission- but nobody really cares.

In all of my literary travels, 9 of my top 10 favorite characters of all time have lived (and died) throughout this series. I read the books and the characters aren't characters, they're family, squadmates, adversaries, and friends. I am proud to say I cried when Fid played his song, was furious when the BAMF sergeant died (trying not to spoil), (fuck you Hood!), and laughed with the best of them at the antics of Iskaral.

My brother and I started reading the series two years ago, but rapidly ran into SE's mortal writing limitations. Now each book release is christmas, my birthday, and a fistfight over who gets to read it first, all rolled into one.

<3 X 10000.

P.S. RE: Obdigore: Agreed, Otherland should have been 3 books long.
P.P.S. This thread is really tough to find if you're not looking.

Heya everyone...

It's actually strange how I got here, seeing as no one I know (despite that fact that several of my friends are avid readers of fantasy literature) had ever heard about the series before, and I found it by pure coincidence. Was browsing a bookstore one day not too long ago because I wanted to buy a random book for myself and went straight for the fantasy department, and there I bought Gardens of the Moon on instinct after reading a relatively obscure plot summary. While it took a little while to into it, I knew I was sold immdiately. Since then I've read Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice and I'll probably soon take House of Chains under scrutiny. Meanwhile I've forced a couple of my friends to start reading the series :-P
