I don't know what was in your original post... although there is a line I can read regarding an interview with SE.

Interviews are fair game in any thread as long as they don't contain a spoiler for future books. On that basis....Was your post a spoiler?
Not really as the event already happened.

And yet, in GotM, wossname sits on the sprouting Azath and slows it down, presumably due to the otataral.

@Hetan: I finally managed to post an answer to your original question! Please look in the "Forum>House of Chains>T'amber=..." (can't type all of it...) thread!

Huh i don't get it can you control otaratal? Because if you can't then how can Quick Ben do lots of magic while sitting next to Paran(at the last battle in MOI) thats pretty odd

i imagine it takes quite a lot of otatarel to make a whole sword. the mining opperation didn't seem hugely productive, more a sort of concentration camp than a proper mine... and most commanderswouldnt actually need them, the adjunct comes up against mages all the time, but mot armies don't encounter much beyond the ability of their cadre mages to deal with... bloody expensive tooPosted Image, as well as unneccesary

Well ...
What I read about Whiskeyjack in Boo's post makes me sad...
Anyway I still hope that the sword, Whiskeyjack and the Bridgeburners perform an awsome comeback...
But all this is out of the thread's scope so I will put an end to it.

Well who do we know in that area who is able to wield a sword?

Antsy, of course. Posted Image (he did survive, didn't he? Posted Image )

Seriously, I hope Blend gets it. Or Picker. Posted Image

At least I hope they didn't really retire; they are among my favourite characters.

But yes...this sword is a problem because as stated by Erikson he forgot about it when he wrote Memories of Ice. Besides I don't see Paran using this sword anymore. It was stated in MoI by the healer of the BB's squad, Mallet was it, that Paran is very close to becoming an ascendant, wether he is going to become one or not is a whole other debate. Hence someone using magic would really rather stay away from something that negates the effects of magic. Unless ofcourse whatever power Ganoes has or is in the process of having could fall into "elder magic" then the sword should pose no problem for him.

I don't know about you guys, but I wanna see Paran get as powerful as he can... he is one of my fav characters. Not just that though. We don't really know what Paran can do- he can travel places within the deck and sorta become a hound, but what this means I'm not sure. We haven't really seen him tested to the full extent of the power within him. And I wanna see it! Posted Image

I don't see why Paran negating magic would be a bad thing. He doesn't wield any sorcery of his own- am I correct in saying that? What a perfect master of the deck. One who would be almostly completly immune to warrens. Cept elder, but then the hound blood in him is meant ot be elder so this sorta makes up for that.

PS. Excuse my slang. I am Australian. Posted Image

Well Steven Erikson admited that he just forgot about the sword when he wrote Memories of Ice. Plus, the sword would've ruined the amazing battles that we witnessed. Besides, I don't see Paran using the sword. He uses magic now, or to whatever limited extent he knows, so the sword would make things difficult.

Tavore didn't get it. that was a different sword. i doubt that there is only one otataral sword in the entire malazan empire. speaking of which, why dont the make ****loads of otataral swords and give them to as many fists/slodiers as they can. that would be a huge advantage against non-elder races.

Well its Parans sword, and its a brave man who tries to take it off him after the end scenes in GoTM. And since he doesn’t use warrens as such to travel, I don’t think the otataral will affect him.

In DHG Duiker Says that the walls of Aren are impregnated with otateral, so they empire must be protecting its city walls from destruction by sorcery. The builders wouldn't even need to know that otateral was in the walls as its a red powdery substace it could be added at nytime by just one person Posted Image

If in doubt as to possible spoilers I always stick questions in the most current book forum.. so either MOI or BH would be good... Posted Image

oh yes, I thought it was right, T'amber is first mentioned in DG, so no spoilers Posted Image
