I have seen his stuff around, but never read them. How is he?

These days i hardly read new authors because i am really picky when it comes to writing quality, and i find most authors do not make the cut.

Ex: I recently read Mistborn 1, i thought it was pretty decent(thought that his prose could use a lot of work), but then i picked up Elantris, and after i was done, wanted the days of my life i had just thrown away.

ModGod ETA: @Murphy72 - something weird happened with your post that followed this one and i had to delete it to prevent reality from imploding and/or Aptorian's ascension to God of Goatsucking. General point of post was to mention that the books start okay and then get better and better.

- Abyss, ...seriously, 'God of Goatsucking'... the mind boggles, i know...

How many fucking people do I have to hammer in order to get that across.
Hinter - Vengy - DIE. I trusted you you bastard!!!!!!!

Its friggin great stuff. The first couple arent quite as good as the rest, but still enjoyable. About book 3 it really becomes great. Read it. Do it....do it.

McGrath's art for the Dresden covers never ceases to amaze me. So simple usually, but they always convey the badassery that is Dresden.

Great cover. Methinks that's a Mayan temple, unless I miss my guess.....

Looking forward to more Dresden-crack come next spring! WOOOT!

Can't wait. Devoured the short story in Strange Brew while I was waiting. Note: Don't mess with Mac's Beer, Dresden will **** you up!

What the hell just happened to murphy's post? Why is Slow Ben And QTs posts inside Murphy's??? Did someone divide by zero again?

You know what I don't like about those hardback covers? Why the hell is he weaing that hat? He looks like a fucking idiot. He doesn't wear hats in the books? Not that I remember reading anyway.

If I was looking for a new book and I saw a cover with an idiot in a duster and a cowboy hat with a stick in his hand, I would not be buying it.

Murphy broke the forum!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Pat clearly failed in his duty as a contributing member of the forum to draw our attention to it. As punishment, he is required to pass me his ARC upon receipt. If he does not receive an ARC, he is required to get one. And pass it to me.

Also, i blame Brood.

Is there a specific gate on Demonreach? i thought there wasn't which was why everyone in SMALL FAVORS had to fly, boat or swim there.

Have we seen anything in the past books that links to Mayan/Inca culture?

1) Pat said somewhere on here that he had a lot of upcoming covers, including the Changes cover.

2) Rashid appeared on the docks, and he 'knew a way' through nevernever to get there.

3) Remember that Demonreach is where a leyline begins, and that the nevernever side is a dark place. A possible trapped outside entity where blood sacrifice has taken place would be a 'dark place', right?

I can see nothing to discount the theory, besides the fact that Susan is in SAmerica and she leaves a message for Harry asking for his help.

I actually think that Harry is leaving chicago, but I thought it was entertaining that I cannot find a way to disprove the theory that he isn't leaving.

I saw this on Pat's site a while ago, is awesome.
Hoping Harry unleashes some major magic and causes all the destruction going on in the cover, unlikely, but would be awesome.

I need my new fix, but at least the last Codex Alera is coming out in like a month.
So to take the place of something new I'm currently doing a reread of the series since they are all quick and fun reads.

I think it is simply that you don't want to go there via the nevernever. It would be like trying to sneak up on a island size wizard eating spider by traversing its web.

Mistborn 1 is, IMHO, the best of that series by far.

As for Dresden, in terms of 'page-turning adventure novel' fantasy, it's flat out the best active series there is. Butcher is an amazing writer, and Harry is a never-ending supply of sarcastic wit as a gumshoe-narrator. It's popcorn. It's genre fiction. But it's the kind of genre fiction that doesn't apologize for what it is and has enough fun with the conventions to ensure you have fun on the ride.
