Malazan Empire: 2 questions (excuse my MAJOR ignorance!) - Malazan Empire

Q1. when quick ben struck the deal with shadowthrone and then st realised who qb was when he left, why didn't he just back out on the deal if he was so pissed off? Did the hounds hate for hairlock over ride st's anger at qb? That part was cool, just didn't quite grasp it that's all.

Q2. Why did Rake come and help Paran when hairlock attacked him and Toc? Was it because he had something against shadowthrone a because he wanted to help paran?

I havent even finished GotM for the first time but i thought i should get these 2 points clarified before i continued. Thanks
