Macros, i don't think I'm superior for being a metal fan, and i don't believe anyone has said that about them self's in this topic. But then you can get that kind of fan with any kind of music, even movies or books. Take a look at twitards for example. So it's not just metal fans that are passionate about something that they love.
I do agree with you about how bands can be consisted to have 'sold out' when they sold a contract. I think to term any band as having sold out is just bullshit.

Macros, you just don't get it cos you're not superior like us metal fans...
And just for the record my comparison of Hangar 18 vs One was purely on a musical level... It wasn't anything to do with meanings or lyrics. It's just Metallica fans are always pointing to One as a musical masterpiece (something I wouldn't argue with too strenuously) but Hangar 18 just rocks out so much harder with its riffage and solos. That's all I meant. I think both bands are a bit stupid when it comes to a lot of their meanings (I mean the name "Kill 'em All" is silly, as are a lot of the Megadeth song and album titles).
Also, Nevermore >>>>> Both Megadeth and Metallica.

I'd say Kill em All, Master of Puppets and a good chunk of Justice are some of the best examples of thrash metal ever made. I learnt all the bass parts on Kill em All and believe me from a musical perspective that was some inovative and well composed shit (especially Anesthesia). RtL has it's moments but som sonds are a little weak, still a good album though.
The Black Album is very good, but it signalled a new direction for the band and though they were still kicking it, it was one I liked a little less. Still the quality of the song writing stood up. I don't think they sold out, it just happened that as they matured they found a sound that even more people liked. You can't be accused of selling out just cos you became popular. It seems that changing direction to make more money would be the last thing on Metallica's mind in 1991 as their previous albums had sold boatloads anyway and they were arguably in the top 3 bands of their (broad) genre at this point (I'd say with GnR and Maiden).
If the Black Album hinted at a move to more introspective country rock their stuff after that occasionally decended into pastiche, honestly, I think that they just became too old to hit the straps like they used to. I saw them in 1993 and 1996 and in the late 90s again and I think the one criticism I'd have of them was that as their popularity increased they became to self-indulgent as a live act. I think it was at the MEN Arena in 1995 or 6 they did a show and it was far too theatrical, there was a whole section where they pretended the stage was exploding and they did a section where they pretended to play with just a small light, with practice amps in a circle and I thought "just play for whom the bell tolls you tossers". The show after that was even more flabby and self indulgent, bordering on U2 (the ultimate hypocrite sell-outs ipod, blackberry etc) proportions of self congratulatory ego wanking.
I'd still go see them, but I haven't listened to their last few albums because I've grown tired of them both as individuals and musically.

I hate metal fans, they have to be the most superiour attituded cocks on the planet.
Quick newsflash for you, you'd better sit down, this may come as a shock to you. Metallica and practically every other band on the planet sold out the second they penned their first contract. They went from playing music for music to music for money. They just want to get paid dawg, I hate tallica's new stuff because its unispired trash, not because they "sold out".
Its just not metal to cut your hair? Why the fuck not? That has to be the sillyist thing I've ever heard, why do metal fans think they are superiour? Is it simply inconcievable that other genres have deep meanings aswell?
Seriously this has pissed me off for years. Idiots that stop listening to bands because they 'sold out' (lars was acosted in the street after their first video and told he was a sell out for making it)
Heres the inside scoop for you all, people are greedy, always have been, metallica rode the metal wave, and when it crested they tried (unsucessfully imo) to jump to .the next wave of metal popularity, new metal, it was hitting its dizzying mainstream heights and they wanted a piece of the action. Enter sandman hand run its course and worn out the popular acclaim and they new to keep themselves in with the money spending masses a change was required. It had nothing to do with experimentation, it was backwards step creativly. a leap infact, but i'd wager the man with the fat cheque book soothed their aching concience.
Bands get signed to make the record label money.
Bands sėgn to get rici and get laid, get over it. metal is not on a higher plane than the rest of it, it just thinks it is
fuck it.

Ba dum - tish!
Quick newsflash for you, you'd better sit down, this may come as a shock to you. Metallica and practically every other band on the planet sold out the second they penned their first contract. (This is just silly, I mean, everyone who is in a band dreams of getting paid to play, unless your one of the punk bands that play just to be revolutionary and antidisestablismentismists, which is exactly why 99 percent of the world has no idea who GG Allin is...)
The rest went from playing music for music, to playing music for sex and drugs! Then they get burnt out and decide, shit, we spent what little money we made in the 80's on women, drugs and court fees, we better hammer out another album quick...then the Garage years pop up, and the band says, hey...I know...lets make another more pop sounding album, that will make everyone happy...fail...Then lars says...hey lets do a thing with the SF symphony Orcestra! and all the metal heads laughed (however, this made them tons of money, due to the increase in gays since the early 80's) and now they can just make any sound the want and throw it out there..hoping that no one catches on that they don't really care anymore since the music is being downloaded illegally anyway, and they arent making so much as they use to....
Its just not metal to cut your hair? umm no...
Why the fuck not? cause bald men cannot headbang..they look silly....
That has to be the sillyist thing I've ever heard, why do metal fans think they are superiour? Because they are, and mullets are superior too.....
Is it simply inconcievable that other genres have deep meanings aswell? Are you saying that Bette Middler has a chance to make a come back?
Seriously this has pissed me off for years. Idiots that stop listening to bands because they 'sold out' (lars was acosted in the street after their first video and told he was a sell out for making it). Which just proves that you can make some of the people happy most of the time...but a dude that lost his virginity in the 80's to the song "Nothing Else Matters"....gets pissed!

I agree with this...damn...surely theres something funny to say....ah....The Unforgiven 3 ...something something...ha!

Nah, that fell through, Middler wanted to do an old school thrash album and Hetfield wanted to spend 6 weeks in the rockies hunting before writing a bluegrass album using a bottle and a 1 stringed banjo.
