I LOVE that song in the trailer. It's haunting, yet refreshing. I might make it my ring tone.

I did just that when I first heard the trailer. But it startled me quite a few times. Imagine returning home at 2am by yourself during a power shortage and hearing that song on maximum volume. Good times.

Here is a rather lengthy, but brilliant essay on why three HOBBIT films can be not only a good thing, but a great one.

I think he looks great! Love, love, LOVE the crown design. Amazing.

Why the enormous black eyebrows I wonder? Long silver hair, and... what? Weird look, I hope the Elves in the Hobbit aren't all like the camped up ones from LotR's.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

They just confirmed that the third movie will come out July 2014, so yah it's getting the Harry Potter treatment there, which beats a full year wait.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Don't know if this has been posted anywhere else, but PJ has confirmed that the 2nd and 3rd movies are switching titles.

So The Hobbit Trilogy will consist of:
  • An Unexpected Journey (Dec 2012)
  • The Desolation of Smaug (Dec 2013)
  • There and Back Again (Jul 2014)

Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Maybe they should just call it The Hobbit Part 2.

Actually I'm actually of the mind that is the best of the three titles. It's rather atmospheric.

I dunno... To me, it doesn't quite fit in with the other two.

They could just call it 'The Road Goes Ever On' or something and keep the thematic integrity.
We might not be free, but we sure are cheap.

It's grammatically vague. Is Smaug being desolated, or does he cause desolation? WE'LL NEVER KNOW! Also, the third movie should include a scene of optimistic dwarves moving into Moria, that would be awesome.

Who said it has to fit with the other two? What kind of boring world would we live in if everything had to go together?

My main beef with the titles is (not new coz it was always the first film's title) that it's called An Unexpected Journey rather than An Unexpected Party, the title of the first chapter.

I have a great fondness of the symmetry of the first chapter titles of LotR and the Hobbit, for some reason.

Also, not entirely related, but is it weird that out of all of Tolkien's Middle-Earth writing that I've read, the saddest I got was when I found out that

Heads up. New HOBBIT trailer will be up at Apple Trailers in about 5 minutes.

EDIT: Just watched it. Awesome trailer, lots of action, a few gags and some nice dialogue delivery by Gandalf, Elrond, and especially Thorin. Really excited for this!

Awesome new trailer. I hope each part will clock at least 3 hours. Is there any news on the length of An Unexpected Journey?

I've heard fleeting rumours that all three parts clock in at around two hours, but that will likely change in the editing room and there is nothing concrete about running time has been released yet (probably because of the last minute decision to make 3 films, which probably required a last minute different place to end the first film).

I'd expect a running time to be announced once it has gone to the MPAA and approved (which is where we normally find out running time because they have to list it).
