Smoking weed has it's own social stigma (thanks for rerailing cougar). Actually when I was on exchange in Sweden, almost everyone I met was really anti drugs. Enough that it strongly contrasted itself with Australia, and I would still not say that weed was "a sort of thing you just did" here.
I believe has a lot to do with small town vs. big city upbrining, Swedes mostly coming from small towns.

So, question (and I don't feel like re-reading the thread to see if it's come up already): are you guys in the UK smoking bud or hash? Because if it was hash, that would explain a lot of the weird things I remember (like, 'so resinous you can't smoke it' etc.).

No it's buds of 'never seen daylight' skunk in the main.
Mid 90s it was all resin, brown, then you started to get a lot more of the leafy stuff, thai stick all sorts. Then in the early part of the century it took a strong turn towards skunk and got stronger and fresher and, frankly, more luminous from there in.

I just asked cause my brother mentioned today that most of the folks he knows in the UK mostly smoke hash mixed with tobacco, and say it's not easy to get anything else.
My bro has a vaporizer. I wish I had one....thinking about getting one of those vapo-pipes I mentioned a while back. Only $60 (!).

Your brother needs to stop using his time machine to come here/hang out with people over 17, I've not seen a block of hash since 2001.
Where the fuck do they live, Norfolk in the 80s? At uni I had the number of 4 dealers in my phone who would bring it to the door.
Skunk is plentiful and cheap, I mean really plentiful, they grow it in huge abandoned lofts using UV. If you asked for a 20 bag they wouldn't even ask you what type, skunk would be the default, certainly in any city (I'm not sure how they roll in the rural communities, apart from on tractors) Giving rise to the playful comment, "that ain't never seen no soil".
Everyone smokes tobacco/weed mix but rarely do I see any brown knocking about. Bongs happen but they aren't that popular.

Bongs aren't that popular??!?
almost everyone that i know has their own bong, some people have cabinets full of them! maybe its just the way we smoke in canada or maybe it's the fact that the biggest bong shop in the world is in a small town five hours west of me but, bongs? not popular?
i know people that have taken single hits from a bong that consisted of an entire gram of bud, no mixer.
ah but i'm starting to brag and derail the thread at the same time.
THC's effect on lung cancer
this is an interesting article, obviously im quite skeptical, even the friggin researchers are, but it is interesting

I live in England, I didn't say anything about Canada. Terez asked about our smoking habits in the UK.
