It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Hmm... my memory is fuzzy, but I think they threw the Matron back in. I don't think they left the Sister in the rent, did they? Can't quite remember any mention of it really.

Originally the Matron got itself sucked in, then Kilava threw in Panion, and supposedly when the little sister went in next Panion popped out on the other side I guess. That or both Panion and the sister were caught in the rent and somehow the CG got Panion out.

If Panion was free the whole time what he was doing in 300.000 years inbetween is anyones guess.

I believe that both Pannion and his sister went in the Rent and that thousands years later when the Matron managed to free herself from the binding of her tumb she fred Pannion and made her dead Kell Hunters undead.

No, it's not (as far as we understand anyway) possible to free your self from such a predicament of your own volition. It is the soul of the one in the rent that keeps it sealed. The Matron popped free the moment Kilava threw the Jaghut kids into the rent. The Bonecaster who catched up with Kilava mentioned that the Matron was free but it would take it ages to dig itself out of the ruins (Why that is I don't know since the Matron had magic), so the real question is simply whether Panion was trapped in the rent for a while or he just popped out on top of the Matron when the little sister went in last.

If we take the example of Legana Breed in DG, then it would suggest that only one soul is needed in a rent, and like the Andii soul took the Imass souls place, then so did little sister jaghuts soul probably take Panions place.

I'm sorry Apt but the book actually sates that it was the Matron that fred Pannion. When they tell him that his sister is alive Paran and QB also say: " She could take only on e of you". And to corroborate the evidence of the statement, when Envy sees the ruins of Morn, she says that the Matron managed to get out of the ruins and reanimate the Kell only some decades ago. And in fact it the Pannion Domin appeared some decades before MoI.

Ah, but that doesn't disprove my above statement. Only proves that the Panion was stuck initially.

I don't get what you guys are debating...

1. The Matron was in the rent
2. Pannion and sister went in
3. Matron immediately came out, and brought Pannion with her
4. The magic holding the Matron took a long while to beat, and for whatever reason Pannion was (probably) stuck with the Matron until she could get out, or nearly so.
5. Pannion emerges (and the Matron does at the same time or a few years later).
6. At the CG's behest, Pannion takes over the Domin Seer (this is 10-20 years pre-MoI)
7. The Domin is formed in Bastion and begins taking over other cities, gradually. For some reason the K'ells are not really used until after Setta/Lest

To answer the original question, in the end they put the matron back in-in her new form which cannot feel pain.

Yo mamma so fat, she plugged the Rent at Morn from Elingarth.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Depends on what specifically we're talking about, Abyss. AIJ was very unspecific in his OP. At the very end, yes it was the Finnest with the Matron's soul plugging it.
