I just finished MoI and am completely baffled by the resurrection of the historian from Deadhouse Gates. Since when can people be resurrected? And since suddenly it can be done, why is he the only one they've bothered to resurrect? All these other important people get killed and they grieve and bury them, inter them in Moon's Spawn, etc. But him the alchemist can resurrect? Huh? ;)

The bottle that Coltaine didn't want was a soul container so that when he died his soul wuld have been safe and could have been moved to another body-just like QB 12 souls or Hairlock becoming a puppet. However Duiker got it and so it was him who got resurrected

I greet you as guests and so will not crush the life from you and devour your soul with peals of laughter. No, instead, I will make tea-Gothos

Duiker not Dujek, but yeah, what Bauchelin said.

And there are plenty of of other ways to perform ressurections and you'll see a few of them as you read further.

duhh.... ok, I forgot that from near the end of Deadhouse Gates. In my defense it wasn't mentioned again until the end of 900+ pages of MoI. ;)

I consider Paran resurrected as well via divine intervention.

He never passed through Hoods gate. He was dead, but not dead dead.

So he had 0 HP or less, but not -10?

I would still argue that his resurrection was in fact a resurrection and not simply "divine healing." Been almost a year since I finished MOI, and even longer since I read GOTM so I don't remember Paran's early involvement all that well, but he's only been resurrected once (in GOTM) right?

ATTENTION: Baffled Kruppe Has Something to Bray!

Duiker's resurrection is adequately accounted for at the end of Deadhouse Gates (including that he inhabits the same body and not a different/younger one).

What Kruppe would like to know is how he arrived in K'rul's Temple/Saloon in Darujhistan so damn fast, when last we saw he was being taken down from a crucifixion outside Aren, on another continent altogether. MoI gives Kruppe the impression that its events are happening more or less simultaneously with the events of DG.

Was he whisked through some Warren or another?

At the end of DG, two Bhok'aral arrive to retrieve the soul-containing vial and Duiker's body. Their pseudo-intelligence is highly indicative that they are servants of Baruk (who wrote a treatise on bhok'aral being good containers for demons and other uses). I'm not 100% sure, but I think they may have arrived via a Trygalle Trade Guild carriage, which would definitely provide fast transportation there and back.

And while the main events of DG and MoI are roughly concurrent, the epilogue of MoI took place long enough after the battle of Coral for the remaining BBs to have made it all the way back to Darujhistan, bought K'rul's Belfry, renovated it into a tavern and then had an opening. Duiker didn't need to show up until the end of that, so there's plenty of time.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Kruppe finds your explanation insightful and illuminating to a degree most satisfying. Kruppe had not taken the time for the BBs return to Darujhistan and the renovation of K'rul's Belfry/Saloon into consideration.

One thing though: Are you sure it was Baruk the Alchemist who wrote the treatise on the Bhok'aral, and not Crokus's dearly departed uncle? (Not that it greatly matters for the purposes of this topic.)

As certain as I can trust Imrygyn Tallobant, whom I've never had reason to distrust...
