Don't believe everything you read Urb
However, from zero to 7% is pretty good but I dont think they'll last in the general elections next year but who knows? The young and the restless don't find the big guns like the social democrats and the conservatives so sexy anymore. Perhaps Im not that qualified to answer anyway, I think the last time I voted in some kind of political election must have been in the 80s. Yepp, the 1980s folks. Long time ago.

The superfluous, that very necessary thing

Apparently the BNP are re-trying their abortive press conference attempt in Manc tomorrow. Fuckers.

Coming after the storms ,but well ^^.
In France, the Right wing (who can be said to be "liberal" in very succint manner) have win a large victory against the Left wing ( the "Parti Socialiste"- Socialist Party, who is not "communist" inspired like most of americain imagine). What's most stunning, it's the huge victory of the ecologist party (pretty near, in term of "scores" of the left wing).
The abstention was also pretty surprising (60%). But well, I go to vote nothing to regret for my part ^^.

The Conservative party won in Wales.
The last time this happened the Labour Party was in its foetal stage and Lloyd George was PM, 1911.
I doubt it will translate in the general election, however I am genuinley shocked. I said recently that the Cons never get anywhere in Wales and they don't, but this is an astounding result. Ok, voter turnout was low but this is a Labour heartland and the public has essentially told Labour to bugger off. I think we will see a short term spate of radical politics/ideas before a return to "Normality". The puny success of the BNP will be enough to motivate people for the general election.
Talking of which I just watched that turd Griffin getting egged on TV, then moaning that the coppers did nothing to stop it or apprehend those responsible, what a twat.
I just hope it doesn't all come together in one long hot summer of economic despondancy and racial tension followed by another 20 years of Tory rule.

Like I said, he's coming to manc tomorrow... I may have to buy eggs on the way to work.
I assumed Plaid would do pretty well in Wales this time round??

Typical of you southern immigrants in the north! Imposing your beliefs and culture on us indiginous northerners. You take your filthy southern eggs and go back to your own end of the country.
Alternatively, have you thought about using a brick instead?

Nah, they are only really popular in the rural West and North West of Wales where people's first language is Welsh. South Wales is Industrial and Labour (or was), Plaid picked up a few councillors here and there but as the majority of people fear their Utopian ruralism and the pogrom against English speaking Taffs that would ensue, they tend to stay at the same levels of support

I was surprised they didn't do better in the Euro elections but may have suffered for being in coalition with Labour in the Assembly. They do have some nice ideas and the fire bombing nationalism of 30-40 years ago has been seriously diluted with the realisation that an independant Wales is a pipe dream and not really attainable. They still hark on about it but tend to be more focused on language and cultural issues these days and trying to fleece European money for regeneration projects. That said though they are fun, I particularly like a firebrand councillor in Cardiff called..., Mohammed Nural (sp?)
listening to Welsh being spoken with a Pakistani accent is novel and says more about what they are about these days.

This filter isn't very good if it doesn't read Sclungehorpe.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

If you look it up there is a name for this from the early days of the internet called 'the Scunthorpe Problem' sites with really arcane profanity filters still won't let you register your home address as Scunthorpe (should you ever want to).

Wow, i totally misread the topic and was expecting something else entirely... and i was clicking in in an entirely outraged admin capacity, yes, yes i was...
Anyrate, now that i'm here, can someone explain, in small easily digestible words, just how these elections are 'European' as opposed to 'Dutch', 'Swede', 'Brit' etc.. is there an element of coordination?

They're elections to the european parliament, in Brussels.
We also had local council ones here in Britain at the same time though, which was confusing for some...

In the EU we have both the National Governments and the EU, as Government have parliaments, so does the EU have one.
Depending on the size of the population of a country, it gets a number of seats alloted in the EU parliament
For Example, countries with huge populations like Germany, Frans and the UK get over 50 seats out of the 700 something
Then again Malta would get very few
In the elections you can vote for parties (most of which are national and which have allied with common thinking parties in the other EU countries, though there are a few "Pan-European" parties) and those get a part of the alloted seats for that particular country

Here is a breakdown of the make-up of the european parliament, 'byss. You can click on each flag to see their respresentatives, and the different bits are explained further down.
PS. It's also amusing, if irrelevant, to click on the "Council map" tab and see the giant swathes of Tory control now in local government. Just for a laugh, I would hope you weren't actively interested in it. Our current government had red colours, which shows up on all... zero councils they now control

I never realized how powerful the EPP / Christian Democrats were.
Also, that council map is a bit pathetic.
