She lunged forward, down, down, eyes glimmering black with hatred.
A sword suddenly sliced straight through her neck; tip red with blood. A perfect stop-thrust.
The killer cleaned his sword; glanced at her sadly, and then turned and walked away.

Elsewhere, a man armed with a grey sword strode forward, purpose in his steps.
Until, out of nowhere, a dark figure hurtled through the mist.
The sword flashed in the pallid moonlight; slapped away by a bare hand.
The swordsman jumped back, glancing around.
The figure was gone...
A dark shadow suddenly loomed behind him...

Korlat, you're dead. And apparently Fener was right about the power role part...

The scene makes me want to think that he got counter-attacked somehow (maybe some crazy role with a BP+counter ability, or he got guarded and killed the same night)...but we aren't supposed to read the scenes for clues.

And Tellan is dead...does anyone remember what role Duncan Jones was?

see....now i was under the impression we wouldnt need to know these books in order to play.

I haven't read the books, but from the synopsis I read Carnival is a kill-every-so-often-killer, which may mean in game that Korlat couldn't just make a kill every night. I doubt a major book character/killer like that would be cult, unless Lish really mixed roles.

So, any clues as to who Duncan Jones is? I think Fener is the only other one who's professed knowledge of the series, so...

I thought Lish said that roles were not as the general rule tied to the character name. So the name is more for fluff than anything. Mind you, Carnival had to be a killing role of some kind, but then that was revealed right away wasn't it?

I'm home, so I'll go get the book to check Kesso's name anyway

I believe so. Korlat never mentioned a "Duncan Jones" in his posts, although he may have used a different spelling or something; a search for "duncan jones" produces none of Korlat's.
