man, what are these places in the world where people aren't drunk as hell every thursday, friday and saturday night.

Must be that Atlantic Canada gives me a skewed impression of what is considered "responsible consumption of alcohol".

People around here really don't bother with the "responsible" bit, instead opting for the "consumption of alcohol" part. As do I. I am a product of my environment I guess.

Thursday night drinking hurts, and often means you don't sober up until noon the next day. Still hilariously fun though. :)

But it's true, we don't really have the whole "responsible" drinking thing going on. The only reason most people won't drink is because they're either broke or have something important to do the next day.

Yeah, I've been kind of turning into an alcoholic lately.

I was out last night (like every thursday), kind of hungover this morning (like every friday).

Glad to keep the drinking reputation of Atlantic Canada going strong.

What is Atlantic Canada? Some kind of small community of exile candians in Atlanta?

Exiles? more or less.

Posted Image

see all those miniature provinces at bottom right?

New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland / Labrador.

That's atlantic canada.

Funny little place where a lot of people start life, leave during working years and come back to for retirement. I like it here a lot though. Can't beat it in the summer, that's for sure.

Oh yeah, and people here drink and smoke more than just about anyplace in Canada. Especially the drinking.

i know what a proper cheese shop smells like and hungover, i suspect that would be a wretched experience.

It's where we send the convicts and prostitutes. It's like Australia in the 1800s only with less killer spiders and better seafood. And more incomprehensible cuter accents.

...because there isn't much else to do except fish and make little maritimers. :)

Why do so many of you end up in Ottawa tho'? It's weird, so many Irish Pubs there have gone Maritime in the last couple of years.
It's like you're taking over Canada, one pub at a time... wait... is THAT your evil maritimer plan???!?!?

Great Big Sea? ooooo man.. nope.. I may be a Maritimer, but Great Big Sea and other "Celtic" music has got to go.
Hard rock fan myself. Also what our band plays.

great big sea can fuck right off for real. (no offense if you like em, they're fucking terrible IMO)

That whole celtic/maritimey music thing got real big in a real bad way here for quite awhile. There are still a few holdouts in the more touristey places (halifax in particular) but in general people got tired of it and its left the evening live-band-at-a-pub scene for the moment. Now we're stuck on hipster/indy bullshit. Man, why can't there be a metal revival for godsakes. So much gay music being played these days.

Anyway, I thought the maritime irish pub thing was funny too in my other-parts-of-Canada travels. Like in Toronto or Ottawa, you walk into a pub and its got great big sea (or somesuch) playing way too loud and everybody is drinking and praising Keiths like its some kind of liquid Oprah.

They even charge premium prices for the shit! I heard now the big thing in TO is moosehead green (or premium lager to be specific). That stuff is one of the dirtiest beers from the maritimes...I guess the green bottle just makes everybody feel special. Not saying it isn't good...just saying if you're going to export a beer from the maritimes and label it premium, at least do it with a beer that's more than a step above bottom-of-the-barrel.

But yeah, Great Big Sea sucks balls man.
