So, here's the reason I've been nagging about all sorts of stuff these past few weeks. Spent too many hours on this, hehe. Started out as a simple Rake painting, then it kinda snowballed. I re-read that particular scene in TTH and had to add loads of stuff. the cult of Dessembra is somewhere off-screen :p

I hope you like it!

Pretty damn good!

I have to say this though: Rake's face made me laugh. His face seems a bit super-serious. But closer-up, he improves. Good job. And Dragnipur looks badass.

And I think Trav's skin should be darker.

Well done!

I agree about Trav's skin, but I also think, that if it was darker he would be barely visible before the dark background, so that it's a fitting choice. And what is left to say is only:
That kicks ass! I love every freaking detail [and there are so many!], their stances are great and the background really looks like Darujhistan [read: how I imagine Darujhistan :p]. Rake's armour is superb and there are so many other cool things!
Very good, you caught the atmosphere of teh scene very well :p

Bravo, that is amazing! Dragnipur looks great, and the crows are a nice touch.

Love the Hounds and the crows. Dragnipur wasn't how I had pictured it but it is still cool. My congratulations

Grimhilde, you are friggin amazing! :)

I love it mate. A LOT. You did the Hounds of Light so awesomely lol. Exactly how I imagined them. I never thought of Vengeance/Grief as a Katana (I assume that's the type of model you used because of the hilt) but I am pretty stunned by everything. I love it! So awesome haha.

Oh yeah, I love Dragnipur, phenomenal job!

Don't want to pick it apart but concerning Rake (He's pretty much 99.9% awesomely done), but it looks as though he has chain under his plate, the only thing that doesn't quite make sense to me is how it holds so far up his neck. Reminds me of a turtle neck, and (Could be wrong), but all the chain mail I've seen/worn hasn't had anything that goes up past the bottom of your neck.

I'm glad my art amuses you :p but I kinda see what you mean. He's face was hard though, and when I painted this I had just re-read GotM, where Rake is super-serious, most of the time:P

Abot Trav: see Puck's comment :)

Yes, exactly. Sometimes you just have to compromise a little.

I'm so glad you like it!

I found some really nice reference photos for the city, as well as borrowing a little from Onrack's Malaz City painting.

I'm really happy with Rake's armour, it turned out cool, but not too flashy, hehe.

I'm glad you think so, the atmosphere was really important to me :wallbash:

Yeah, I know. But it was hard getting him to look anywhere else without going all cross-eyed, which is not really a good look for the Son of Darkness, hehe.

Thank you, thank you! I really appreciate that:D

It's not actually a katana, but a very thin double-edged sword, but it's hard to tell since you can't see the tip and such. The hilt was described as being round, not flat so that was my interpretation of it.

It's magic chain mail? Normally, chain mail wouldn't act like that, but I added the silver filligree stuff which acts like a stiffener and makes the collar possible. I also needed something to off-set rake's black skin. Also, it's fantasy art :D

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments, guys. They really made my day!

Exactly how I pictured Dragnipur. A big old broadsword.
Nice touch with the ground smoking where it's touching.
Armour looks awesome as well.
Rejoice. For very bad things are about to happen

Nice work.
Especially on Rake and the hounds.

I'm not entirely sure why (though I suspect it might be all the details building it up), but I really like this painting.
The close up of Rake's face is my favourite part :)
The leader, his audience still,
considered their scholarly will.
He lowered his head
and with anguish he said,
"But how will we teach them to kill?"

Quick question, why hounds of light?
Wouldn't hounds oh shadow have been a better choice?
They may cut your dick in half
And serve it to a pig
And though it hurts, you'll laugh
And dance a dickless jig

Great pic Grim,

Particularly liked the way you did Dragnipur, the light hitting the armour and the sense of movement from the hounds.

For some reason I always think of Rake as younger looking, but fair play e' looks 'ard !

Cool :)
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

ofc i have read it, but the hounds of light only showed up after rake was dead, even the two that was running with the hounds of shadow never got to the place where Rake and dassem was fighting untill after.
And there was hounds of shadow around when dassem and cotillion had a little chat just before the fight, and the first blow between dassem and rake is described as to fast for even the hounds of shadow and the greater ravens to see.

Because they're cool?

The Hounds of Shadow woudn't have been visible in this painting, so I picked the Hounds of Light for contrast and because they were the newest addition to the pack and haven't been painted before.

All criticisms I have are already said so just happy with the result, Sword is definately my favourite part

Very very nice Grimhilde.

I like the Hound of light best, followed by Vengeance.

Only reason i aint so happy about the Drake/traveller pick is bacause of how my own inner picture of them is without armor for that fight.
