Is bullshit.

Who's responsible for such a terrible idea?

Let us find him/her and lay upon them a beating. Even if they're dead. I have a shovel. Will travel.

Dude, aren't you the history major? The 5-day workweek (or at least Sundays off) was a direct result result of unfair labor practices that exploited the working man....

Right? I recall something like that.

Yeah, I've a history degree. But it's a wide world. A man can't study everything.

I majored in beer and nurses.

I have a history minor and the only thing i really remember was Illinois became a state in 1818. Not really, but you get the idea.

They didnt offer nurses at EIU so i studied Beer and Cheerleaders.

I think it has something to do with the Bible... so, Moses is the guy to blame.

I think your close, it has something to do with the Jewish Sabbath day traditionally being from fri night to sat night or something like that. But i've been wrong before.

They did, it just got replaced with random things like, "which bar has beer specials on tuesdays between 4-6".

So you understand, of course.

I think it evolved from this. Sundays were taken off because of the Sabbath, and thus Sunday Blue Laws were first passed. This is why you can't buy booze on Sunday in many states, still. Jewish owners, forced to close their stores on Sunday, found that by closing them on Saturday there was no inherent religious bias and thus could pass constitutional standards.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Just think, if the Jews had decided sabbath lasted one day longer we might have 4 day workweeks instead of 5. (and yes, i know it doesnt work like that)

My response was really confusing: Christians made sure they were closed on Sunday, Jews made sure they were closed on Saturday. At least, that's some part of it in the U.S. That is more based around blue laws.

The industrial revolution, increased productivity of the assembly line, and general technological advances of the 20th system, along with rising wages has resulted in less time per good, and less time necessary to make a living wage.

93-99, 4 undergrad and 2 grad. Marty's was awesome, in the summer they'd do 2 dollar cover and 1 dollar everything. I played so much pool there.

Google tells me it is Henry Ford who is responsible. Not sure if I believe that.

I still remember the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire documentary from Am. Hist.....bad stuff, that.

A curse upon the beast who invented Thursdays! They are a pointless waste between Wed and Fri.

Now, since Thursday was named after Thor, the Norse god of thunder, Norse is Scandinavian, Scandinavian is Viking, Viking is Danish-
