Did Truth die? I know he went into the flames, but I might have missed any text that literally said he died. I've learned that if it isn't stated exactly, then it could go either way.

Also, same thing with Mappo. I remember it saying he fell into the darkness. But, did it actually say he died?

Edit: Scratch Mappo, just read it.

Truth is dead, he had no protection against fire or Malazan munitions, remember Baudin went though the same warren that Truth did and ended up being burnt to death.

As for Mappo, read and find out.

Bad idea to come into the BH forum asking questions if you haven't read the whole book yet, Assail. Spoilers abound.

But yeah, as far as we know, Truth is gone. However, the proponents of the "you need to die to ascend" theory, theorise that he could have ascended or been picked out by some random god/ascendant of fire.

I think he's dead and gone though. Erikson brings way too many characters with emotional deaths back from the dead, but even for a secondary character, Truth was minor.

Yeah good point. I just expected after the whole passing through the Tellann/Thyrr fires and whatnot he would have been a resilient individual. I mean, why make such a big deal and bring them back from the fire just to have him run a suicide mission?

Well, that's Erikson for you. He kills off characters at random. No matter how strong an ascendant you are, and Truth was only half ascended, running into a fire with cussers in your hands will make you into ascendant meat slurry. Moranth munitions destroys magic and there's not much ascendant powers can do against something like that.

Totally agree, just seems so strange to have written so much concerning what happened on Silandas and whatnot then have the guy just go "K guys, gonna go save our asses and blow myself up in the process". But we shall see, Dust of Dreams isn't out yet!

Well Gesler and Stormy are still at large and doing important things. It'd be weird if only the people who would be important plot-wise got Thyrllanned on the Silanda...

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.
