The sad thing is that base load power stations are usually not keen to ramp down production just to ramp it back up again. At the most you'll take off a few of the smaller producers for a bit. Plus whatever small amount of fossil fuel you save during this hour will have already been dug out of the ground, so it's going to be sold and burned somewhere. Mining companies don't go "hold off on production this month, we're gunna have an earth hour".

Really this is just a distraction from the real action that we so desperately need.

@CI, I believe it was intended as more of an "awareness" approach, rather than an actual positive effect thing.
You know, by turning of all the lights, make the government/whatever realize that the people want change.
