Okay. Icarium survived. Well, we were all suspecting that, but you never know with Erikson.

So what do you think is going on?

Obviously one of our theories of the last events of RG have been proven right. The old machines were soaking up memories/thoughts/minds and it ate amongst other Taxillian and I believe "Rautos" is the rich guy who unearthed the machines, right?

So, why did it only take seven minds/souls? Seven sounds like a significant number, not just a fluke.

Is it significant that there was seven holy cities and Dessimbelakis became seven Deragoth? Is seven an important number? like an optimum amount for soul transfers. Were there only seven machines in Lether?

And what of Icarium? I bet he's heading for the KCCM castle (or what ever it is) and he's going to create quite a fuss.

Apt, I believe this is already under discussion in the prologue speculation thread.

Would possibly be best to keep all discussion there, rather than having large numbers of threads about every specific thing, when it could be kept to that thread.

I think we need a sub forum in the dust of dreams forum....this thread should stay a thread I think IMHO

Not sure, cause if we're discussing everything in prologue discussion thread, or in the prolgue thread anyhow, why have a seperate part for each part of the prologue. I mean, that section was rather small anyhow, so surely would be best to leave it in the general threads, where it will almost certainly be discussed anyway, rather than have it split across several threads?

I'm making seperate threads for seperate discussions because I want to have a discussion with out the debate drowning in OMG LOL PROLOGUES and the seventy thousand identical questions that are going to be made over and over again.

Don't worry, plenty of discussion is still going to take place in the main thread.

I am just branching out-

EDIT: Trust me, I know what I am doing... I think.

I almost started a thread about all the 7 references in Bonehunters. That was months ago and now I cant remember ones that you have not mentioned...I think Heboric refers to 7 holy champions , like Surgen.
In the story of the silent god that Greyfrog tells I think there were 7 warriors representing the 7 major tribes that went to find the silent god. I think this story revolves around how worshippers can force and bastardize a god..., orginally, before rake, 7 hounds of Darkness Right? George Costanza wants to name his child 7. Oh wait that wasnt Steven Erikson, that was Seinfeld.

I have seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter at the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain...."

Yeah, but I think multiple prologue threads in main section is just clutter.

I reckon a seperate sub-forum like Bubba suggests would work fine, but don't think I've got the power to make one.

Trust you apt? :p

Maybe that request deserves a spot in the hall of fame :p

Edit: Were there 7?

The leader, his audience still,
considered their scholarly will.
He lowered his head
and with anguish he said,
"But how will we teach them to kill?"

the end of RG when he walked into the bright light and his machine was broken.

anyways, someone mentioned and i think it might be that the seven were the closest people to the machine

Where is Senior Assessor? Is he the talking one that wants to cut throats?

Also, 7 isn't necessarily the "preferred" soul thing... just look at Quick Ben (who for some reason can only unleash seven warrens at a time and I am undercutting my own statement...)

It is indeed Rautos Hivanar. The other two we know of are Taxilian and Senior Assessor that got incinerated. Also, I'm pretty sure there were FAR more than 7 miniature model objects in R.G. There would have to be enough to make a model of the entire machine...

As to why he got their souls:

My theory was that unleashing his blood was the way to get at his memories and set himself in time... however, because the machine was broken Icarium wound up incinerating entire people, and soaking up their entire soul/personality which would easily drown out a broken mind like his own if they were combined together.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

He was content with that, content to go with them, and he found himself sharing Taxilian's curiosity, which grew in strength and if challenged would easily overwhelm Asane's fears and the host of obsessions plaguing the others – Breath's drowning, Rauto's miserable marriage, Last's meaningless life of diffidence, Sheb's hatred and Nappet's delight in viciousness. And now the conversations fell away, leaving naught but the crunch and thud of bared feet on the rough ground, and the low moan of the ceaseless wind.

Tentative list of personalities:

Sheb - Vocal. Doesn't seem entirely intelligent and is blood-thirsty. Patriotist?
Nappet - Throat-cutter. Probably Taralack Veed.
Last - Vocal. Objects to Sheb. Seems intelligent. Probably Senior Assessor (meaningless life of diffidence)
Asane - Weak and fearful. Someone hiding in one of the buildings...
Breath - Dislikes Rautos. A lot. Sees him as a murderer and dislikes his wealth - possible random poor Letheran or Indebted, also drowned?
Taxilian - We know him. Seems to be the dominant personality.
Rautos - We know him, sort of: Extremely intelligent, but greedy.

What happened to Veed? Didn't he get hit by a flying brick or something at the end of RG, as Icarium went into his machine?

That would explain why he's not there.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Talk about being haunted. I think he will start to go even more berserk and crazy than before :) Which should create some very nasty but delisious stories.
