The Beginning still sticks with me.

In the film/mini-series you just see the kid disappearing into the storm drain and the little ship or something sails away.

In the book you get to read about how the clown chews his arm off!

Yeah, and then his brother finds him...

I liked the scene where the photo album sort of comes alive; and they later see that the clown is in all the pics. Creepy.

Oh, and the kids getting eaten by '50's movie monsters like swamp thing. As he dies, one kid is still trying to find the zipper on it's back..

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

No one actually likes clowns. Not even clowns.

Also, they may have problems including the underage gangbang scene.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Why was that even in there?! If I remember it right, they are all heading down towards 'IT's lair; and then they all taking turns on the only girl there.

Weird. I don't even think there was a reason for it.

I have comepletely forgotten anything about this!

It's because Stephen King completely loses it towards the end of books, and comes up with some ridiculous fucking scenario to get him out of whatever he's got himself into. IT, Dreamcatcher, Insomnia, probably a hundred others.

The gangbang thing was unnecessary and the turtle was ridiculous (though I hear he's gone back to that with Dark Tower, which I haven't read yet, so NO SPOILERS ta).

Other than that, great, GREAT book. All the stories from years ago, all the different ways in which the town is brought into the thick of it. Classic.

That's probably because it was so out of place and unnecessary that you mentally blanked it!

(I wouldn't call it a gangbang - the girl just decides for some reason that they should all have sex with her. wtf?)

That reminds me of Kingdom Hospital.

FYI Kingdom Hospital is based on a danish miniseries by Lars von Trier called "Riget" from the 90s. It's basically a very creepy story about weird shit going down at the national hospital in Copenhagen, Rigshospitalet. It is so fucking creepy you can't even understand it. The building is falling to pieces (still is now), the dead are weaking below the earth of the building, a couple of downs syndrom dishwashers in the basement make dread prophecies, a dead girl haunts the elevators, a secret society works within the administration, a demon is born by an insane woman, it grows to become the size of an entire room, poltergeist bloody writting on the walls, etc.

Kingdom Hospital on the other hand takes place in the cleanest, most well lit, well staffed hospital I have ever seen. I watched two episodes and gave up because it was more like watching a retarded version of Twin Peaks than watching a horror series.

Anyway, the weirdest part was this walking, talking ant eater creature that the protagonist painted. It was so fucking weird I don't even know what to think of it today.

I saw that! Forget the remake, that original series got 10 out of 10 for weird and scary.

Having, very unfortunately for my continued sanity, forced myself to read IT (I'm very far from being King's biggest fan having read precisely one book of his from which I derived any enjoyment... Bet you can't guess what it is!) I can confirm the existence of that underage multipartner sex scene. iirc the reasoning for it was something along the lines of: this weird sub-Cthulhu spider creature from beyond the universe represents the negation of life and love and humanity and all that stuff, so if we reaffirm all of these things by having some rather grubby sex in front of it we can defeat it...

After which this particular reader's brain started hurting. I can honestly say that that particular scene struck me as even freakier than the one I read, some years later, in Chris Bachelder's novel Bear vs. Shark where one of the main chararacters imagines in fairly graphic detail what it would be like to make mutually passionate, fulfilling love to a Great White Shark... And that one had me throwing the book across the room whilst shouting "What the fuck did I just read?"
If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. I've never met anyone who liked clowns. They're creepy as hell.

And Great White Shark love....that's....I....yikes.

Umm... Yeah... That one did come a little out of left field as far as reading experiences go. It was also very much not what I was expecting when I picked up that particular book. And, to be fair, turned out to be not all that representative of the contents of the rest of the book.

But yikes, nonetheless... Most definitely.
