Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

I dont know, when i was a kid it scared the shit out of me, but watching it as your older you realize it could be a hell of a lot better.
Usually i cant stand remakes (sorry, but i hated the new "longest yard"), but if they do this right, and thats the key, it could be excellent.

One of the few King movies that was made well. But, from what I remember, they had to do mini-series because the movie was too long right? That is a longish book... ~600 pages or so. I would watch a re-make on tele, or if they made it 3:30 long.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Yep it was a mini series, and it's a pretty hefty tome and i'd be worried about what would get left out.
It's a major problem with King adaptations, ( The Stand, Langolliers etc) but here's hoping they give it a good go !
Who can do loony big shoes well enough though, Pennywise is pretty iconic and the potential for this project to get slated is pretty high.

I still have to take a leap when I step over one of those big storm drains on the edge of the road after watching It years ago! I always think he's going to grab my ankles.

You don't want to float down there, in the deadlights, Mez?

When I was quite young my mum took me to a circus and the clowns made me cry so much we had to leave
They scared the crap outa me and still do ! I mean what's the point ?
Parents still hire clowns for their kiddies parties, why ?
To traumatise the little rapscallions into going to bed when they're told... or the fat, unfunny, scary guy with the pink afro will eat you.

I see this was back before I learned how to make proper captions. I had it saved under Malazan Art
EDIT: On topic, I would love a remake. It's a hell of scary book, but the film doesn't do it justice any more. But back when I was a kid that mini-series scared the shit out of me.
We float. We aaaall float down here!

^^ What he said.
One of my all-time favourite books, and when I first read it at about 13, it seemed longer than the world (1100 pages, my copy). The film/series was good in its day, but I watched it recently. And, er, it was not good any more.

I still get enjoyment out of the flick. I doubt any remake would make me "fear" it more than I have vestibules of the original terrors it caused. But, it is very possible it could be done again, with a slightly more tightly wound original story.
Gary Busey as the clown.

I read the book years ago. It was good and scary, but the end was a bit of a let down.
(Also, mouthy kid becomes a DJ, kid that likes building dams becomes architect, kid with glasses becomes librarian?!)
I liked the book, but the tv series, although fairly close to the book, lacked atmosphere, and looked
pretty low budget.
Most SK films are really awful, barring 'Stand by Me' and 'The Shawshank Redemption.'
New version could be good, if they get a decent director.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yep. I think the others grew up in equally unrealistic and contrived ways - I haven't read it for about 20yrs though. SK always has an author in there, too, who, as a kid, 'likes words.'
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

The Beginning still sticks with me.
In the film/mini-series you just see the kid disappearing into the storm drain and the little ship or something sails away.
In the book you get to read about how the clown chews his arm off!
