I liked the first game, but when I started playing this I went "of course, this is the way it's supposed to be!"
Anyone else tried it?

I love it, the game rocks and I like how the small squads make you care and micro - but due to a lack of time, Mafia and the upcoming release of Empire: Total War, I'm definately not going to play it much

Haven't gotten it yet since I needed to be studying lately rather than spending all my time gaming. I will probably pick it up in a week or two during my spring break.

I played the first to death, tried out the beta multiplayer, quite enjoyed it, but will leave the full version until I actually get a new computer that can run it well.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

That sounds awesome.
Currently I am playing through Soulstorm as Imperial Guard, I'm enjoying it but when I play my RTS games I enjoy having a story there rather than just defeating everyone the same way. Plus I like the Starcraft-esque unlocking of units instead of starting with every possible one available, it lessens the novelty of the insane units.
So how do they do it in 2? It is story, or just conquer?

No buildings is what makes it so great! This is what warhammer 40k should be! Building buildings feels really stupid anyway, since they've lost all technology and only uses the old technology, that they don't quite understand. It's very heavily based on tactics, and less on strategy, which fits perfectly. The story seems so far to be quite good, though I see people complain about the maps getting a bit too similar after a while. The RPG elements are cool too.

I have the game and played through it and loved it. I had an absolute blast playing through the whole game in a weekend, but you can make it last longer than that if you want. I would definitely recommend the game. If you play the campaign it is closer to warcraft 3 i.e. your characters level up and improve and there is equipment for them to pick up.

the gem of DoW is multiplayer though, and from what I've read it's even more so with DoW2
