The whole Felisin plan by Tavore was pure puke. T'ambourine should have picked up on it immediately and voiced her opinion regarding the whole douche-ness of the idea.
All ever stupid Tavore had to do is march up to Surly and tell her straight. "She's my sister and I need her on my staff...Wat?"
Goddammit!
Other than that...awesome!

The Adjunct of the Empire can not be seen to show mercy or affection, not even for her family. There was a culling of the aristocracy, among them the Paran family, showing favoritism would not have sat well amongst the people and it would not have proven the untested Adjuncts loyalty to the throne.
As far as I remember wasn't there some kind of mix up in Skullcap? I seem to remember that Tavore had thought of a way to get her out of there, but the uprising ruined that.
EDIT: also, no T'amber talk in this thread. Wrong forum Frook.

The "mix-up" was that Felisin became a drug-addled whore, thus making it harder for Baudin to release her. The prison guard was originally in on the scheme as well, but Tavore was counting on Felisin being sober enough to get the clues. But, she was too busy doing... other things.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Actually T'amber is mentioned in passing as her personal adviser, so I reckon my tambourine is not too riske. I'm looking at it as a plot piece. Adjunct as a tool of the empire CAN make choices as long as it is seen as if it is in the interests of the empire and Felisin repeatedly shows some startling insights and gives more than an excuse for there to be some sort of alternate strategy. I can see her as some sort of mini Tavore, who is totally and utterly devoted to her sister and also acts as a 'bodyguard' and whatnot. Admittedly it would throw the story out of kilter as too many things would have to be adjusted. And also, she is second only to the empress who has shown a lot of 'consideration' to those who serve her closely. If Tavore says its okay then it would have been okay.
I barely remember myself about skullcap, this being my first reread of the DG (DhG?), but this has always stood out like a beacon of weakness...Goddammit.

also Tavore was trying to bring some honor back to the Paran household since at the time there was some question over Ganoes loyalty to the Empire.

Tavore's plan to free her sister was scuppered by the fact Felisin completely believed that there would be no plan, that Tavore really did send her to the Otataral Mines for good, and that she was totally and utterly screwed.
Something else that pisses me off about reactions to Felisin in the start of DG is the 'AN ORPHANED TEENAGE GIRL ABANDONED BY EVERYONE WHO EVER CARED FOR HER, THRUST INTO A HELLISH PRISON DESPITE COMMITING NO CRIMES AND FORCED TO DO WHATEVER SHE COULD TO SURVIVE NO MATTER HOW DISTASTEFUL OR SOUL-DESTROYING? WHAT A WHORE!' attitude. Christ, when the best circumstance you can get is that you're being raped by someone at least a little bit considerate, you're going to do whatever you can to make it not worse, even if it's drugs.

Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I agree, it was all about surviving for her.

Thirded.
Felisin had no reason to believe Tavore would do anything to free her. As far as I could tell, Tavore didn't care about her family even before the culling, so Felisin reasonably assumed Tavore just doesn't give a damn about her.
Kif: Sir, remember your course correction?
Captain Zapp: No.
Kif: Well, it's proving somewhat more suicidal than we'd initially hoped.

plus Felesin was described as somewhat of a spoiled, sheltered little girl that idled her days away writing poetry. she didnt have much if any experience with how the real world worked.

So, shouldn't there be a window to type why you're reporting a post? Or is that a non-Aqua skin only thing?
EDIT: It's sorted now but you should be more careful about which forum you're posting in when it comes to later-series info, Wampyry.

Don't worry, we make a big deal out of these things on purpose so that you'll feel so sad and depressed that you can't help but double-check yourself next time. And cause we love playing with your psyche! (or as Abyss would put it, BRAAAAAIIIINNNNZZZZZ)
