Having said that, it does sound like an awful lot of effort has gone into that LotR game...it could get ugly, but could it really get as screwy as this one? I'm not sure.

hmm
22 or more roled players, each one having a LotR role, designed by true fanatics...
yeah, I bet it'll get ugly.
also, changing alt pws is a bitch. yawn
i'm so not sending out all the role PMs
we got 20 alts, if morgoth45 wants to play that makes 18 people, might give ninjas another acolyte, or make the last person a generic pirate.
I like 3:1 inno: scum ratio in my games, so i'd say ninja, but it's up to Kurt.

I'd have said another Ninja would work better than another Pirate, but then I don't have any experience with balancing stuff.
On an unrelated night, got to play some RL Mafia this evening, and yea verily, it was most entertaining

Thanks for changing the PWs - I really didn't look forward to that. I'll take care of the Role PMs, as I plan on having fun writing them.
And yeah, I suppose another Ninja will work - just a copied Junior Acolyte. It'll definitely make things better not to have to make someone a really generic role ... and I'm not going to be entirely random in assigning Roles, either. I want at least a couple of veterans in key positions, just for my own satisfaction. And a couple of old-timers are going to get screwed with in their roles (like whoever gets to be the Cannon, or the Monkey, or ... well, anything).
Only someone with this much power could make this many frittatas without breaking any eggs.

Wow, stuff really doesn't cut-n-paste good from Notepad.
Oh, and the Ninjas are a tad veteran-heavy, but oh well.
Edit: I'll be out for an hour or two, I'll do the Role PM writings while eating and drinking.

Sir Thursday
RL mafia's really different
I like running those games, not so much playing in them
once you do mod a forum game, it really helps you to keep things organized.
ofc, the only times i've played RL mafia off the top of my head was in QC, using a local adaptation, and talking in French. it was... interesting.
When i was 12 or so, I once played a variant in Russian, also in RL. but don't remeber much about that.

The Roles have been sent to the Alts. I'll post all the PMs in here at some point.
Anyone want to take care of sending out the passwords? I'm going to be gone for about a half-hour, and can do it after, but ... if one of you guys want to cover it while I'm travelling between houses, that'd be great.
Otherwise, I'll get where I'm going, send out the pw's, unlock the thread, and declare the game open. Then be in bed within probably an hour - I don't expect things to be too busy while people sort stuff out, spam, joke vote, etc. ...

Here are the unformatted Role PMs I sent out (I'll clean this message up at a later date, I'm kind of tired right now):
Black Beard: This really isn't your best voyage ever. Sure, that Nip castle was easy to knock over, and loaded with gold, but everything's gone downhill since. Your crew got that whole "murder-rape-pillage" business in the wrong order, leaving you with no prisoners, and now they're starting to get a tad ... anxious ... about the lack of wind, and the fact that you've been sitting in one spot in the middle of the ocean for a couple of days now. You've got an iron fist keeping them together, but supplies are running low and they are rather well armed ...
As Captain, you rely upon your strength of persuasion for discipline, bringing the men together to kill one another, while being careful not to kill anyone in the light of Day.
That doesn't mean you aren't willing to get your hands bloody, you just aren't open about it - you have a shot in each pistol, and can use them for two Night Kills, either on two different Nights or both in the same Night.
Being a clever bastard, and slightly sober for just a bit longer, you'll be able to avoid dying on the First Night ... a Night One BP, but you're on your own after that.
Thanks to your greed, you have 20 pieces of gold, while the other crewmembers have only 10; any gold possessed by a lynched crew member becomes yours.
First Mate: That fucking idiot Blackbeard is leading you all to your deaths, and clinging to an unfair share of gold in the process. But self-promotion is dangerous on a pirate ship, and Blackbeard hasn't lived this long by being easy to kill. You'll just have to bide your time, and hope the crew can see that continuing to follow the old man just isn't working out ... and that maybe your way of doing things is better.
You have a one-shot Day Kill, but cannot use it against Blackbeard, who is Gamelon.
You have 10 pieces of gold.
If Blackbeard dies, you become the Pirate leader, and all gold from lynched crew-members is yours.
Helmsman: Feeling particularly useless without any wind, you've decided to split your time between drinking, and more drinking. You used to have the power to guide the very ship and all aboard ... now just what the hell are you? But maybe you can influence things in other ways ...
You have the ability to end Day twice, whenever the mods get around to reading your PM.
You have a one-shot Day Kill.
You have 10 gold pieces.
Cranky Old Bastard: Who are these idiots? Who's this blathering jackass with the black beard railing to hang people? Why is there a parrot shitting on your shoulder? And why's the rum gone? It's getting so a man can't screw a whore and go to sleep in peace, especially since there aren't even any whores on this ship, just that ugly bastard in the stolen dress. Well, if you aren't happy, damnit, no one's happy!
You may force the game to skip Night once. You must submit this as a provisional before the end of Day. No other provisionals will have effect.
You have a one-shot Day Kill.
You have 10 gold pieces.
You must quote other players at least three times during the Day, without adding any original content - just the quote (it's the parrot, you see ...)
Jamaican Voodoo Pirate: Well, so much for joining a pirate ship to see exotic lands, steal exotic gold, and rape exotic women. This ship's getting dangerous, and you want nothing more than to be back on your home island, doing whatever the hell it is Jamaican people do in the 18th Century. Fortunately, you've got a few mystical tricks up your sleeve to enhance your chances of survival ...
You have a Find each Night.
You have a one-time BP against Kills (but not lynches), Day or Night. If this is used, you lose your Finding ability starting the following Night.
You have a one-shot Day Kill.
You have 10 gold pieces.
You must talk in a thick Jamaican accent at all times.
Gaoler: The very essence of law, order, and randomly locking assholes in the brige because you feel like it, you feel as though you maintain a certain non-hanging-people level of discipline on this ship. Not that you're against hanging, of course, if the situation demands it, you just like to have your own style of justice.
Your Night Action is to place someone in the brig - that person will then, so long as you remain alive, be unable to use Day or Night actions. You may swap them with someone else another Night, but only one person may be in the Brig at a time.
You have a one-shot Day Kill.
You have 10 gold pieces.
Retarded Cabin Boy: Try not to drool on yourself, fuckwit. You're pretty much as useful as tits on a boar. The only friend you have is the equally retarded, shit-throwing monkey (Emurlahn), and he spends half his time sodomizing deck planks, which sort of makes you wonder about splinters. At some deeper level, you're also the most observant person on the ship, you're just too stupid to explain what you've noticed without choking on your own tongue.
Each morning, you recieve the remaining numbers of Pirates and Ninjas. You may not divulge this information in-thread.
You may not reveal the identity of the Shit-Flinging Monkey.
You have a one-shot Day Kill, but can only use it on Day 4. If you live that long, retard.
You have 10 pieces of gold, which you sit and polish endlessly with one hand, while polishing something else with the other.
Sicilian Mercenary: What cruel fate have the gods inflicted upon you, to strand you upon this ship with such halfwits! And not even a decent cask of wine or seven with which to drown your sorrows. Seeking fame, glory, fortune, and rape, you're reduced to anonimity, disgrace, a handful of coins, and an occasional quiet visit from that ugly bastard in the stolen dress, as long as he promises not to talk or try to cuddle after. These fools, if they could only understand your brilliance and worth ... and if they kill you first, well, you've left a little surprise ...
You have a one-shot Day Kill.
You have 10 pieces of gold, which have been Poisoned - whoever takes them from you after a Kill will die the soonest Night (regardless of Heal or BP), unless they're particularly clever.
You must write at least three words in every post in ALL CAPS BECAUSE YOU'RE AN ARROGANT BASTARD.
Spanish Mercenary: Oh, what a lamentable fate! To be so cursed, so weary, so lacking in chances for fortune, glory, and rape! You should never have left Barcelona for the seemingly adventorous and rewarding life of a pirate ... and you feel such hatred for the drunken sots around you ... starting with the blundering but dangerous Captain. You're ready to do something, anything, and you can feel the resolve growing in you by the minute ... nothing will stop you when the time is right to kill.
You have a one-shot Day Kill. If you hit someone with a BP, the BP has no effect and the target is killed.
You have 10 pieces of gold.
You must include at least one word of Spanish in each post - in fact, the more the better.
Simpering Twit: This is just all so gruesome. These horrible wretches keep hurting each other! Oh, you try to talk them out of it, but you should probably be more persuasive. And the gun at your side ... it's so heavy! You can't imagine what would bring you to ever use it. You just want to retreat to your bunk and the warm, comforting arms of the Serving Wench, who can't possibly be a man like everyone keeps pointing out - she just looks too lovely in that stolen Japanese dress ...
You have a one-shot Day Kill.
You have 10 pieces of gold.
You may submit a provisional once during the game, Day or Night, and the following time period no-one will be able to kill each other.
Drunken Surgeon: You're still not sure how you wound up the ship's doctor. Probably all those shiny cutting and sawing tools you brought on board years ago, along with various vials of foul smelling fluids. You just didn't have the heart to tell anyone that the tools are actually for torture - Pirates are sensitive fellows, deep down, and might not have been too enamoured of having an honest-to-god, professionally trained torturer aboard. And as for the vials, hell, even you don't know what's in them, you've never even opened the damn things. They were cheap at a apothecary's shop, and you thought they'd look impressive on a shelf, especially the one that glows in the dark.
You have a one-shot Day Kill.
You have a Night Heal Action, with a 50-50 chance of success, determined by the mods flipping a coin.
You have 10 pieces of gold.
(MOD NOTE: The Surgeon's Heal is a lie - he actually has a 50-50 chance of a Kill with every Action. Flip a coin.)
Serving Wench: Well, if the dress fits, the Captain said when you found it on that Nip ship ... and indeed it did, and looked quite fetching, in fact. Let them laugh as they will in the day, and sure you only recieved a half-share of gold. But each night, at least one of them slips into your bunk to seek the comfort of your brawny and hairy, but ultimately tender, arms. And that's when you get your true satisfaction ...
You have a one-shot Day Kill.
You have a full Find each Night; and you recieve half the gold that your Find target possesses (if any).
You have 5 pieces of gold.
Shit-Flinging Monkey: God, that coil of rope on the fo'c'sle is just soooo hot! It wants you, damnit, you know it, no matter how it plays hard to get. And there's that slutty little hole in the deck in the pantry ... If only these ugly smelly, pink creatures would get out of the way. You keep signalling your annoyance through the polite tactic of feces hurling, but they're surprisingly rude in the face of proper ettiquette. Ah well, you have your revenge each night when you slip away with some of that shiny stuff they value so much. Maybe that shy carronade on the maindeck would like some ... bring it out of it's shell ...
Each Night, you may steal the gold of one player. You have a 50-50 chance of success, based on the mods flipping a coin three times (best 2 of 3). Heads = success, tails = go back to screwing an empty wine-bottle.
24lb Cannon: You are a thousand pounds of iron, with a hole bored lengthwise and a match-hole bored in to meet. You fire various projectiles at other ships. You were made in Southampton, England, seven years ago, and are a tad out of date. You have no idea what the hell is going on, or why you're sitting on the main deck with the carronades. You have no idea about anything ... because you're a cannon.
You are also very poorly maintained and not properly tied down, with a full load of powder and shot loaded ... why, the slightest jolt in the middle of all this stupid drunken violence, and you might just go off.
You have a one-shot Day or Night Kill, that cannot be blocked by any BP or Heal.
You cannot be Killed, but you can be lynched.
(MOD NOTE: THE CANNON'S LYNCH VOTES WILL NOT BE COUNTED)
Master Ninja: You are just such a badass. I mean, just look at you - all, uh, Ninja'd out. Poison, shuriken, neat little knives, all that black silk to fade into a night like a shadow. Except for the clever Pirate disguise, of course, same as the three slightly less badass Ninjas that have accompanied you (Serc, Telas, Omtose). You'll totally get that gold back, or die trying.
You have an NK each Night, and will claim your target's gold.
If you die, the at least somewhat competent Acolyte (Serc) will take over for you.
You may communicate with Serc at Night as much as desired, but may only send one PM each Night to the others (they will be able to send you one PM each Night as well).
Acolyte Ninja: Why the hell aren't you the Master? You're just as much of a badass as he is ... Oh well, until he does something stupid and gets bumped off ... But the important thing is getting that gold back, and punishing the Pirates. Because your new lord has promised you pussy for miles if you succeed.
You have a one-shot Day-Kill.
You have a Heal or a Guard each Night - your choice which to use.
You have a one-time (obviously) Ninja-attack - both you and your target will die. This can be used Day or Night.
Your fellow Ninjas are Galain (the Master), Telas, and Omtose. You may communicate with Galain at Night.
Junior Acolyte Ninja (Telas): Students of the Master, you only wish to serve wisely. You cannot yet be trusted to actually kill, and must help in other ways. If necessary, you will sacrifice your life for this noble cause.
You have an Investigation each Night, you will learn how much gold your target has, and nothing more.
You have a one-time Ninja Day Kill, which kills both you and your target, and brings Day to an end.
Your Master is Galain, and Serc and Omtose are fellow Ninjas. You may send the Master one PM each Night.
