Has anyone read this short story? I read it a while ago, and didn't know what was going on. I figured aliens or something. I read it again today while reading Looking for Jake and other stories, and came no closer to understanding it or the Viae Ferae or anything, for that matter. Is it actually real, or just supposed to read that way? What's all this business with CM and Varmin Way?

The whole book is rather surreal, but that story in particular threw me.

Antiquis temporibus, nati tibi similes in rupibus ventosissimis exponebantur ad necem.

Si hoc adfixum in obice legere potes, et liberaliter educatus et nimis propinquus ades.

Not aliens. Sentient, wild roads. I thought it was an awesome concept. Basically an extension of the 'sentient cities' idea that a few authors throw around the edges of their work.
Amused me that he wrote it from his own perspective too.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.
