Having recently acquired a PC, I now find myself in the position of putting all the music I own onto its hard drive - and thanks Vista btw for crashing right in the middle of it so I have to start all over again, that was a big help.

Anyway, it would appear that I own absolutely shedloads of music. This would come as no surprise to me if I actually was a big music fan. But I'm not. Don't get me wrong; I like music, I listen to it every day, but I'm not a DJ or a collector of music. So why do I own hundreds of CDs?

Books... That wouldn't surprise me. I've been collecting those for longer than some of you here have been alive and I've got nearly two thousand of the buggers now.

And clothes; I really do like clothes, I'd have way more of them if I could afford the really nice ones and I've still got too many now.

Comics too. I've been avidly buying American comics (and others) since the mid-80s; those I've got coming out of my ears!

But where did all this music come from?

So the question is: what do you have a ridiculous amount of and you're not entirely sure how that happened? And how is it that vaguely rational human beings, such as ourselves presumably, can acquire so much...stuff...and not notice until they find they have to do something with it?

I have multiple shovels, a pick-ax, a machete, two kukris, several knives, a big ax, a hand ax and three or four shitty swords in my house and garage.

I think I'm good for a low level zombie infestation.

I have a shitload of pottery from when I did it as a kid. It's actually some pretty good stuff but I can't sell them...

I also own a vast-vast-VAST collection of gaming magazines. What can I say, I'm an obsessive.

And then there's the messy piles of school papers, containing outstanding successes, horrendous failures and the odd coronary investigation.

Boxes of bits of paper with notes on stories I want to write, formulas and recipes I think could come in handy (everything from home made soap to plastic explosives), stuff I think I would need if society collasped, old character sheets from roleplaying games that never really got finnished, really old concepuatual designs for aircraft, castles, armour, worlds, inventions etc.

Everytime I move the boxes come with and I keep meaning to go through and sort the dross from the gems but I never do.

I have an immense amount of games workshop miniatures. shelves of books. and a ginormous bookcase filled to the gills with PC games...Oh and a loft full of board games. Books and games it seems are my vices.

i'm sorta like AIJ, cept every 3-4 years my mother has me sort out through all my numerous stack of papers, getting rid of about 95% of the stacks.
I have a fair amount of books, but so far they still all fit in a single bookcase (that takes up an entire wall, mind you)

all my digital media rests either in my 500Gigs external hard drive, or in my laptop.

I guess i try to consciously limit the amopunt of stuff I purchase, and I am anyhting but an impulsive shopper.

Well I have a rediculous number of books, so many that I don't have enough shelves for them all. I've got books stacked on top of books, books in boxes, books on top of those boxes. I don't consider them crap though, so I don't know if they really qualify in this case !

The two other things I'm guilty of having in major excess are clothes and shoes. My clothes take up three closets and numerous drawers in my house! I have clothes with the tags still on! Every now and then I sort through them all and give about seven or eight boxes away to charity. I'm always surprised because I find stuff I had no idea I owned! As to the shoes I love shoes I have them in every colour and style, I will in fact plan my outfits around my shoes! For me shoes are a things of beauty! No price is too high if they catch my eye! It's sick really!

I still own probably 20,000 or more baseball, basketball, and football cards.

Clothes. I buy clothes, but more often just fabrics that catch my eye and then sew whatever clothes come to mind and then I actually wear them once or twice and let them pile up like everywhere, 'cause they don't fit all into my closet and I don't have space for another one. And recently I discovered I developed a liking for shoes. I'm alarmed and hope this will fade.
My obsession with books lets me feel quite comfortable, though. Same goes for painting and drawing materials which I've got in surprising variety due to school requirements and personal preferences.

Well I'm just trying to be honest Hoosier! I know fits nicely into the whole women and shoes stereo type but it's true! Other than the shoe addiction i'm not really the typical girly girl I swear! I should also point out that it's not just heels I have a ton of runners and casual shoes as well! I just can't help myself though! They're so colorful and stylish and they fit me like a glove! It's worse than a crack addiction!

I was talking to a friend about this not so long ago. She downloads everything, whereas I download nothing. I put it down to being old enough to still want to own the substrate on which something is recorded... And also a profound distrust of my of Windows Vista - which, to be fair, has behaved exactly as I expected it to..

I own way too many video games/ DVDs. I would be better off renting that stuff, but I don't.

I also own a ton of books, really like 2000 pounds worth. But I don't consider them a waste.

that's why I'm hesitant to get a new laptop--they'll load Vista on it!

bought and set up a new PC for my dad a few motnths ago--Vista was annoying th ehell out of me. it asked me for 3 confirmations in order to create a damn desktop shortcut!

If you ask for XP they have to give it to you (at least for the next year or two) they can not make you buy vista. If they give you the runaround look for a smaller scatch built company you can often get better deals, better service and what YOU want.
