Not sure I like the sound of this! I'm a massive fan of the show up to about the end of series VII - or whatever series Kochanski became a crew member again.

Yeah, Kochansky killed this series. Killed it dead. This is a worse idea than that "This Life" reunion they did a couple of years ago.

I think this could be car crash bad, there is just no way this should be allowed to happen, the last good series was 6 it has been all down hill since then, the series where the crew were resurected was awful

Cat's fashion sense.

These words individually are understandable, but they don't fit a sentence. What are you trying to say?

ok I am just jealous
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

In Kochanski's defence, one of the writers left at that point as well. The one who stayed was really into the Kochanski character. I think he is the one that is writing the new ones...... Why can't people leave well alone? I can't think of anything that has been resurrected that is as good as the original, Christ included!

In general. I think this idea is a sandwich short of a picnic.

I agree with the general consensus that Red Dwarf turned lame when they put Kochanski in there. Ruined all the dimensions of the whole thing. Rimmer shouldn't of buggered off either. I heard at the time, that it was because the actor didn't want to be type cast as a fool. Then he went on to make Brittas empire...........................BLINK!

As an aside. It would be good if they could capture the 3/4/5th series amusementlevels with the original actors. If they could pull that off then id be amazed, and i would watch it in a edge of seat excited 5 year old manner.

BUT! We all know it will be shit.

Its almost as bad at the idea they had for a Red Dwarf Film but they weren't even using the same characters.

Madness.

My money is on a chap called Nigel coming up with that one. * Nods solemnly *

"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

Sorry Flawed, you handsome devil, but you have your timeline all to-cock here, Chris Barrie had already made (possibly even finsihed making) the Brittas Empire when he left RD.

The problem with RD after series 6 was that they lost the values that made it a great series, things that were particularly iritating even before the return of Kochanski was the series where they deceided that in every episode Rimmer would misquote a Spacecorps Directive, only to be corrected by Kryten, it was painful, then there was the idea that we wanted to have popular old characters constantly resurrected; which lead to teh loathsome polymorph 2 episode where the Cat went back to being Dwayne Dibbly, Ace Rimmer returned and also the return of Kochansky. The last good episode from my point of view was the one where they ended by being destroyed by their future selves, the trouble was that the start of the following series did nothing clever with this at all.

The series where they had an greatly enlarged budget was dreadful, plain not funny and by the time they realised they needed to return to the old production values it was too late and the time had gone.

It's what happens to every cult series when it becomes too popular, it tried to appeal to a wider audience and you end up with a kind of death by focus group.

Did anyone watch it?

It was about as disappointing as it could have been. Re-hashed old storylines and jokes with considerably less success and an unoriginal obsession with Bladerunner. They should have left it alone! It felt more like a jolly for the cast and crew rather than something for the fans. The only interesting thing was that Danny John-Jules can still fit in a cat suit!

I saw about two minutes of it last night. Everyone looks old. Had to turn it off, cos it was bloated and slow, like it had just had christmas dinner.

I don't know... I was expecting it to be terrible; but I thought apart from Chris Barrie looking a lot older, it still kept the right feel to it; and if they weren't being that original it was because they were playing it a bit safe.

It was nowhere near as bad as it could of been - or as poor and pointless as that 'This Life' reunion.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.
