When Hannan Mosag entered KG and importuned Mother Dark and Father Light to unite the Tiste peoples into a single army and pledged the Edur, to the east there was darkness, and to the west there was the sun's glow.

What did all of that mean?

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

He'd gotten both MD and FL's approval, obviously.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Really? I thought it was a sign that they were unheeding and were still warring against Shadow (you know, dark and light intruding).

He was rather too relieved for it to be bad. Also he'd been getting worried about the lack of signs beforehand.

But he said, "So be it", which I thought of as a "Fine, whatever" sort of response.

Brys

I also took it to mean their approval.

this passage is all well and good.

mosag pledges the edur, MD and FL seem to give their approval of his dream to unite all the tiste, then turn around and choose a human, Brys, as the mortal sword. (he also turns out to be the saviour of the empty hold) this makes him say 'so be it'.

only thing is, how in the gods bloody Wu are the tiste ever going to ally with each other again? short of osserc or FL himself showing up to manage the liosan, those arrogant bastards prolly won't do dick all. the andii are nigh on extinct and now the edur too. how many liosan still live in kurald liosan/thyrllan? surely enough to cleanse the world of their 'lesser' kin, dontcha think?

of course it has all been set up so that FL seems to be on the cusp of making an appearance, but that alliance still seems ridiculously unlikely

Think I'll go in a different direction - again.
I think the whole scene was an elaborate con job by the Errant. He wanted Brys back, maybe just to get
Feather WItch off his back. He can't get directly involved himself - some God code of conduct or such - so he
cons the most desperate player to do the job.

Neither Mother Dark or Father Light (If he exists) seem to be in position to give a crap one way or the other
about combining the Tiste forces. The Owl, the dark to the east; the sun to the west - nice touches.

Without Brys where does this whoe scenario go?

There are still quite a few Edur left. Their biggest casualties were among the Search ships and the overseers fighting the Malazan infiltrators.

I would still bet that the Liosan are the most numerous, but there may be strong hope for the return of the Andii as a numerous group now.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

This part was confusing to me as well, since it seemed that the Warlock King came to some type of redemption point, purging chaos etc, but only for this short passage. Then, turns into a evil scummy dude trying to re-capture the old sea god.
